Re: Scoop! Tata Harrier.ev to get 75 kWh battery & AWD

The battery pack seems to have been packaged well. The ground clearance also seems decent and not much effected by the large battery. The independent rear suspension can also be seen.

Re: Scoop! Tata Harrier.ev to get 75 kWh battery & AWD

Harrier EV was initially shown about 2 years back. Tata needs to put more focus on their born EV platform Avinya and Harrier EV instead of showcasing products and not giving any real launch timelines. Tata is going to lose market share to competitors, as there are lot of EVs coming in 2025 as lot of people ran into HV issues that plagued Nexon facelift.

EVs are best for driving inside city and for intercity drives which are connected by good roads as per my perspective. There is huge risk to 4WD EV to remote places like Ladakh and off beaten paths where there is no charging infrastructure. I don't see market for 4WD EV in next 5 years as compared to 4WD ICE car like Scorpio-N 4xPlor or XUV700 AWD.

Tata Motors should have used Bharat Mobility Expo to answer these questions
- What platform will be used for Harrier.ev?
- What is WLTP or MIDC 2 range (not superficial ARAI ranges) along with real world range from on road testing?
- Why is Tata showcasing AWD / 4WD in an EV?
- I don't see OmegaArc platform in use in any future products. What platform are they going to use for future premium products like Harrier, Safari?

Re: Scoop! Tata Harrier.ev to get 75 kWh battery & AWD

The fact that Tata has been so secretive about the new Harrier EV's power and performance figures could mean one of two things:
Either they are not particularly proud of the rather mediocre numbers, especially in light of the new EV competition,
OR they are gearing up to surprise the market with truly spectacular performance stats. I hope it's the latter, as this would inject some much-needed excitement into Tata's EV business, which has been relatively quiet compared to its newer rivals.

Plus, in case their publicity team were wondering how to market a powerful new Harrier, why not rehash an old ad?

I do not know the authenticity of this, but according to this article from EVO India, Harrier EV is expected with a power output of near 370hp. It will be great if this is true.

370 hp....No ways..... and the board signed off on this? I'll believe it when I see it, these are the same folk who called the 110bhp Altroz a sports variant!

If true this will change the way we view performance in the Indian automotive sphere. Plus dealerships will need to offer Test drives only to people who have put down deposits.

Does the central armrest in the ICE harrier move backwards and forwards? If its fixed like in the be 6e, then it looks beyond useless.

I have a Safari XZA bought in June 2022 & the armrest for driver is indeed bit backwards placed, plus it is fixed type. But it is one solid build unit, not flimsy like the one in my other car - Brezza.

Coming to usefulness or otherwise of the same, initially I too had same opinion that it was useless, but once I started using the same, my driving posture improved & thus the feeling of tiredness is much lesser.

Coming to Harrier EV pics, I feel the incremental upgrades & the overall specs are too good to be ignored. Plus the instant rush of torque in EV will definitely pull some strings. Having owned a Tata, I will definitely consider it as my 2nd car when when I replace the Brezza.

The armrest has always been fixed in Harrier since first version launch in 2019. Safari also has the same type of fixed armrest.

The fixed armrest of Harrier and Safari is not of much use for short people of 5.5 feet height like me for manual transmission variants because the seat has to be slid forward in order to press the clutch (which has a long travel) fully. I could slide the seat slightly back on automatic variant and small portion of elbow could be rested on the armrest.

If Harrier EV gets fixed armrest, then shorter people will again have the same issue where armrest is not too much useful on longer drives.

I somehow feel this is a hub motor system. There is a power control unit in the place of the spare wheel and it is connected to some electrical motor on the rear wheels. If it is, then it will loose lot of weight and will be swift and powerful.

According to the article, Harrier.EV is expected to offer a range of 400 to 500 km which is a kind of decent range but still not enough to compete with XEV9e, IMHO.

One question: Will the highlighted part (rear axle assy) be visible in a series production car like this or will there be a rear skid plate to cover it?

Re: Scoop! Tata Harrier.ev to get 75 kWh battery & AWD

I happened to see the harrier ev at the shell charging station today and the test driver was kind enough to have me have a look around
At 99% SOC , the range on the instrument panel shown was 490kms and the test driver said it gives a true range easily over 400-420kms.

420 is very low for 75kw battery. I hope this may be a MR version with 65kw battery I would expect 75kw battery to deliver a real life range of 550-600km

Edit : I just noticed 71.xx power was delivered so this is definitely 75kw battery. Range seems less.

Even if we discount the last 20% charging at 3.3kw the car seems to pull at peak of 100kwh above DC speeds

A real-world range of 550-600 km is not possible with a 75 kWh battery. Mahindra is claiming a 500km real-world range with a 79 kWh battery on XEV 9e. You can achieve 600+ km with conservative driving but not possible in all scenarios especially at 100+ kmph highway speeds.

Coming to charging speeds, even if we know the charger capacity, there is no way to know the DC fast charging capacity of the Harrier EV from the above image. If it's a 60KW charger which is the case with many of the DC chargers in India, then the max charging speed will be limited to 60KW only.
