Is this a thing that normally happens? They've launched bookings for cars without giving even a hint of the price?

re: BYD India unveils the Sealion 7 Pure Performance Electric SUV

I was assuming Sealion 7 would be 2 to 3 lakhs higher than the Seal equivalent variant. But the way BYD is trying to entice people to commit to a booking means they are thinking of higher margins. It looks to be a good product for the SUV-hungry Indian market. In the long term, they will struggle to sell because XEV 9E is a direct competitor with BYD's own battery.

Personally I would prefer XEV 9E because of price tag and Indian brand factor.

Autocar has this pegged at North of 60L Ex-Showroom. That's 15% more than the Seal.
Unsure how I feel about this car at that price point.

re: BYD India unveils the Sealion 7 Pure Performance Electric SUV

Hi, just came back from Bharat Mobility Show, Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. I have heard a lot about BYD and its products. Have driven Atto 3 briefly and found it okay (compared to MG ZS EV).

However, today I went to Bharat Mobility Show only to check out EVs. I sat in almost all the EVs (except eVitara, Harrier EV & Sealion 6 PHEV of which doors were locked) and to be very honest my observations are below (I am 6 ft tall & owner of Honda City 2018 VMT & rear seat space should be comparable to Honda City):

1. BE 6 - I barely able to sit in the car with knee up position. Didn't like the overall package (except large battery capacity). I will not consider buying BE 6 since it is too cramped for the price (about 20 lacs on road Noida).

2. XEV 9 - I was able to sit with my knee almost touching front driver seat, which appears to be was pushed all the way back. Overall a respectable products considering the price of Pack 1 & Pack 2. I may consider it.

3. Curvv.ev - Was not able to sit at the back seat (I think front seat was pushed all the way back). It was knee up position. Did not check Nexon.ev (I am not aware whether it was there or not).

4. Punch.ev - I have heard a lot about the good rear seat space on this forum as well from the colleagues who own it, however, I could not sit at the back seat due to no space was there for me to sit properly (I again think that front driver seat was pushed all the way back).

5. Creta EV - Trust me, this is the best overall package under 25 lacs for an EV for the family use. Except 5% to 10% people looking for performance oriented SUV, 90% people will love the overall package. It has SUV appearance, spacious, perfect ICE SUV like seating position at the back (no knee up position), excellent interior fit & finish. As per my calculations, a 42kWh battery pack can easily give 280km in city range (100% to 10%) and 51.4kWh battery pack will give 340km range. I was upset with the pricing, however, now I feel that Creta can become best selling or second best selling EV in India in coming months.

6. Windsor Ev - Windsor EV is king of budget EV. If JSW-MG manage to improve AC efficiency, two way rear AC adjustment and 50kWh battery pack, they can sell 10000 Windsor EV every month, this is so damn good product.

7. BYD Sealion 7 - I feel this deserve 75 lacs price tag if launched by Mercedes, BMW, Volvo or Audi. This is spacious like your drawing room, feature packed, solid build, excellent fit & finish, exceptional interior fit & feel & what not. It was unveiled few minutes before I entered Hall No. 6 and I was literally blown away by Sealion 7. Price will be revealed on 17th Feb 2025 and hopefully BYD will launch it for 44.90 lacs for Premium and 55.99 lacs for Performance variant. However, since now BMW iX1 LWB launched at 49 lacs, probably BYD has to launch it at 41.90 lacs for the Premium Variant and 47.90 lacs for the Performance Variant.

I did not pay much attention to Mercedes & BMW as their products are out of my budget imagination (both buying & maintaining).

I have seen other interesting products, but I have nothing much to write about them. I am not very optimistic about Maruti eVitara or Toyota eUrban Cruiser since they look like a raised hatchback, but the battery pack is good. The biggest drawback seems very poor leg room at the back and knee up position.

I am surprised that except Creta EV & Sealion 7 EV, all other EVs have little or more knee up position at the back seat, which manufacturers are unable to sort out by redesigning the rear seat or overall appearing of the car.

Autocar India says the top variant of Sealion 7 could be 60L ex-showroom. So 45L seems way too hopeful. Even a 50L for performance variant is a decent option given its AWD and the torque figures compared to LWB iX1. Feb 17 we will know.

re: BYD India unveils the Sealion 7 Pure Performance Electric SUV

Hey guys. Have anyone booked it? I too went to Auto Expo today.

Planning to book SEALION but I have generated priority on Mahindra XEV9 E too.

Don't know what to keep.

Quality - Yes BYD is better but if it crosses 50 Lakh mark I am dropping it. All inclusive 50 lakh is still acceptable to me personally but if it goes over, I will consider BMW X1LWB

More bling for money : No one can beat that Mahindra product that they have just launched. Sheer size of the car, features like (ADAS level 2 ++ ), 5 Star rating 31.97/ 32 rating which is highest ever touched by any car in rating scale, that harman sound system with 1400watt with Dolby atmos (Boy I heard it and I was just amazed) with tuning personally done by Mr. AR Rahman ( as quoted by Mahindra officials) , groove lighting , all the blings, BYD's trusted battery, real world more then acceptable range of 500+ will really make people shift to EV's. I feel we will see B6E more on the roads compared to this. However this is the best VFM product IMO.

Really want your opinion guys. My heart is with Mahindra but my mind is with BYD.

re: BYD India unveils the Sealion 7 Pure Performance Electric SUV

Unfortunately for Indian market, BYD has launched a dumbed down variant based on the older E-Plaform 3.0, which is a 400V system and limited to 150 kW charging speed. While the China, EU and UK versions get the newer E-Platform 3.0 EVO, which is a 800V system and charges upto 240 kW. The EU versions also get upto 91.3 kWh battery for the top variant.

The EVO platform also gets a 12 in 1 power train as opposed to the 8 in 1 powertrain seen in Seal and Atto 3.

Even the Seal sedan for 2025 gets a updated 800V system in China with faster charging.

The fact is the Sea Lion 7 will have a slower charging speed than even the Mahindra with a BYD Blade battery.

Hi Ayush,

Many will be in a similar dilemma and all depends on Feb 17 price announcement for Sealion 7. In all likelihood, pricing for the Sealion 7 will be marginally higher than the Seal. So expect around 50L mark for the Premium variant and 55+ mark for the Performance variant.

The BYD tech is less error-prone vs Mahindra’s. So you need to see which way on this trade-off equation (also keeping the price difference in mind of course) you want to end up on

Don’t book it right away unless you want to have the car delivered on Mar 7 itself. Good luck!

Thank you for the reply dear.

I don't mind getting the car on March 7 however the only stuck issue is pricing

Let's see. I'll keep you posted. Man car buying has become a process nowadays:

re: BYD India unveils the Sealion 7 Pure Performance Electric SUV

In the UK the Sealion 7 is only 1000GBP more than the Seal for the base variant so 60 lacs on road as estimated by some online portals in India seems too high. I would imagine this is priced closer to the Seal otherwise there won't be many takers.

Having done a booking for the Sealion, I would personally end up canceling if its over 50 and go for the iX1-L too. Have also booked the Cyberster as the mid life crisis vehicle

Hi, I may be wrong, but I feel that BYD is selling their left over stock of China to India, be it Atto 3, eMax 7, Seal or now Sealion 7.

Hi, I think Sealion 7 should price 47.90 lacs for Premium and 55.90 lacs for the Performance variant (Ideally Sealion 7 should be priced as CKD for Rs.39.90 lacs and 45.90 lacs, but since it is CBU it will have higher duty).

Do take a test drive of iX1L before booking as rear seat will be knee up position for anyone above 5ft. 10 inches height. I have only seen iX1L from outside since the crossover was locked at the Bharat Mobility Expo, but have seen Sealion 7 inside out multiple times and I can say that Sealion 7 is much, much better than iX1L. I may be wrong but iX1L will not be able to give you more than 375km to 390km range from 100% to 10% as against around 480km to 490km for Sealion 7.

Today, I called a nearby BYD dealer, and their SA told me that they got the price from the company, and the price is Rs 45 lacs to 55 lacs ex-showroom.
