Re: MG Windsor EV to get a larger battery, improved range

I fear that the reduced price offer may be a disguised dealer incentive.
Nobody booking is in the know whether they are in chosen few of the '8000'
They are at the mercy of the dealer who will milk them and the principals will just turn a blind eye.
Best wishes.

For the Essence Pro Variant, May End.

It was good to see that they already had a vehicle or two for display in their showroom at the time of the launch of the vehicle.

Ok that's kind of fast. Considering the fact that BE6 pack 1 would only come by August.

Which is why I am also willing to invest in MG. MG has shown that they are constantly working hard and covering a lot of bases in the EV segment.
BAAS as a service is also a great initiative by MG.
In a world where owning and maintaining a car has become a nightmare, their VFM propositions are gaining tractions.
Just like Kia, they are doing their homework in the EV segment.
No comments on their ICE section.

I appreciate MG’s pricing strategy and approach to Indian market. Also as a comet owner for more than a year now , I can vouch for their quality and reliability. Though it is no where near Maruti or Toyota , I feel they’re getting better.
I am not someone who encourages people buying Chinese products but if they’re manufactured here and in partnership with Indian companies meting all legal Govt framework, I think they’re worth investing our hard earned money.
Add to it, they’re at the top of the EV game.

What time does the online booking for Pro open today? Currently I see only 3 variants listed in the booking section.

Hi, it is possible that a few months after the launch, around the festive season, JSW-MG may discontinue the 38kWh variant and retain only the 52.9kWh variant, priced similarly to the 38kWh variant (with a slight increase of a few thousand rupees).

I believe it started around 10am. Here's the link to book the car:

- Red color wasn't visible in the selection when I booked it.
- Only ivory interior for the Pro variant.

I booked it around 10:22am and shared it with my SA to get it entered in their system.

Re: MG Windsor EV to get a larger battery, improved range

Friends, when does the option of BaaS show up ? I mean does one opt for it at the time of delivery ? Don’t see that option while booking.

You can opt for BaaS when you do your entire payment for the car, while booking you don’t need to mention about BaaS.

What is the minimum guarantee for kilometers per month under BAAS scheme?

Re: MG Windsor EV to get a larger battery, improved range

Went to the MG showroom at Muttom in Kochi today to inspect the vehicle in person (didn't take TD).
Still the pro variant isn't available for display or TD and the staff there also seen to not be too interested to explain how the Pro would be better. Infact it reached a stage where I was explaining some of the features of the Pro to the executive there

Coming to the car, it felt "practical" as everyone have been saying. Having just come after Test driving the BE6 which is a beast in terms of the drivability and a huge letdown in terms of the rear seats, this car felt like it scored in some areas and didn't score in many.

First question that popped to my mind is, how on earth did MG manage to get such a large interior space with a wheelbase similar to the BE6 ? It is Innova-like for sure.
However I did not find the stanly sofa like styling of the seats. The bumps on the seats felt too much, and I felt like they were punching my back at odd places and many parts of my back didnt even feel the cushioning at all. This felt like a big drawback at both the front and the rear.

Does anyone know if the seat bumps settle down with time ?

As far as the exterior looks go by, it is definitely polarising.

Re: MG Windsor EV to get a larger battery, improved range

I had visited Jubilant Motorsport showroom Bengaluru on Mysore road for the Windsor Pro inauguration.

I did see the blue, grey and green colours in the long range version. I would prefer the blue and the green versions. The grey was a bit dull IMO.

The seats are ivory-beige tone and not white.

The ADAS is camera based and not radar. The bottom unit is still a dummy.

The glass area is still the same as the 38 kw version with no glazing done.

I had driven the 38 kw version for test drive earlier so would assume the same dynamics however need to know how the added weight will act on the suspension stiffness. I drive the first gen Seltos and felt this suspension better than or same like the Seltos. Bodyroll will still be there as the seat layout has not changed.

The Hector alloy wheels does not look bad when viewed in person.

Overall a good package. Did a booking for the T. Green version Essence Pro. Onroad Bengaluru price is 17,77,077/- and this does not include insurance as I am getting it done outside(via company lease policy). ETA for the delivery is unknown at this time.

The way LFP battery and EV component pricing in China has kept falling, indeed smaller battery packs will disappear from larger cars like Windsor. I have said earlier as well: you have to think of EVs as tech gadgets like phones and laptops. Every 6 months or so, the new variants cost less and do more.

There are two other, related factors at play -
1. Lack of wide consumer choice in India for value for money EVs.
China is a hyper-competitive market with lot of EV models. Carmakers are forced to keep their EVs up to date in China at great prices, otherwise sales fall quickly. But in the Indian EV market, last year's Chinese EV models are still far better than anything else available here! For example, the SAIC/Baojun model sold as MG Windsor in India no longer sells well in China (it was a remarkable success, earlier). MG's parent (SAIC) and their suppliers have spare capacity for its components like batteries, power electronics and motors. The car has large discounts because there are newer, better models available from others. So, SAIC can sell depreciated EV plants and machinery like dies, and key components cheaply to other markets.

2. China's EV volume
EVs are also half the Chinese new car market. The much large efficiencies of scale from Chinese market helps make per unit costs cheaper even for good quality parts. Just like Indian scale works well for our 2-wheeler exports.

The tariff war will anyway lead to low import duties on cars from other countries. This is the time to scale up the EV supplier ecosystem in India, and the fastest way is to partner with Chinese EV makers and let them make in India with Indian majority stake. That's also how the Chinese learnt from the Germans and the Japanese once upon a time. But the consumer pricing will fall only if there is fierce competition. For example, If BYD is allowed a JV with someone like Suzuki India and all data on Indian servers, you will find a very good EV within 11-12L within a year.
