MG Windsor EV PRO Review

MG Windsor EV PRO Review

This review has been jointly compiled with Chetan_Rao. Thanks to him for the expert observations!
MG Windsor EV PRO Review-1.jpg

Introduction

Ever since the Windsor EV was launched in India, it has done exactly what it was supposed to do. It has shown the customers that it was all the car they needed. Over 20,000 units were sold in the first 6 months of the launch. Reports suggest that the Windsor EV surpassed the Nexon EV and the Punch EV sales combined in the same time period.

While the car does most things right, there was one con that we had mentioned in our review, which is that MG should’ve offered the car with a bigger battery pack. Well, that issue has been addressed now with the launch of the MG Windsor EV Pro, which gets a bigger 52.9 kWh battery pack. While it is a big launch for the brand and quite important as well, there aren’t a lot of changes in this updated Windsor. It’s more of a variant addition to the existing lineup, and hence, this report will focus only on the changes in the ‘Pro’ version. To read the full official review, click here.

MG Windsor EV PRO Price & Brochure

The MG Windsor EV Pro is available only in a single top-end Essence variant. It was launched at an introductory price of Rs. 17,49,800 (ex-showroom) for the first 8,000 customers. However, MG has said that it received 8,000 bookings within 24 hours of the price announcement, which is why the price has now been revised to Rs. 18,09,800 (ex-showroom). You can also opt for the ‘Battery as a Service’ (BaaS) plan, where you pay the cost of the vehicle (without the battery) and then pay a rental fee for the battery. For the Windsor EV Pro, the BaaS price has been set at Rs. 13.09 lakh + Rs. 4.5/km.

Starting price for the Windsor EV with the smaller (38 kWh) battery pack is Rs. 13,99,800 (Excite) and goes up to Rs. 16,14,800 (Essence). This means you’re paying roughly Rs. 2 lakh for the Pro variant. This may seem a lot for just a car with a bigger battery (ergo more range), but you also get some additional features like level 2 ADAS, vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging, electronic tailgate, new design for the 18-inch alloys, and new dual tone interior theme.

The biggest competition for the Windsor EV is the Tata Nexon EV, which is also offered with 2 battery pack options. The ex-showroom price for the Nexon EV 45 starts at Rs. 13.99 lakh and goes up to Rs. 16.99 lakh (+ Rs. 20,000 for Red #Dark edition). While the Windsor EV Pro is the more expensive of the two, it does have a bunch of features on offer to justify the price.

MG Windsor EV PRO Exterior Review

As mentioned earlier, the Windsor EV Pro is just a variant addition. There aren’t any major design changes on the exterior, and it measures 4,295 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width (excluding mirrors) and 1,677 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm:
MG Windsor EV PRO Review-2025_mg_windsor_ev_pro_exterior_02.jpg

The overall build quality is good, and the car doesn’t feel flimsy in any way:
MG Windsor EV PRO Review-2025_mg_windsor_ev_pro_exterior_03.jpg

One of the changes in this Pro version is that you now get level 2 ADAS features. The camera for the system is placed on top of the windshield:
MG Windsor EV PRO Review-2025_mg_windsor_ev_pro_exterior_16.jpg

The Windsor has a very MPV-like design and has a coefficient of drag of 0.367:

New on the Pro variant are these 18-inch alloy wheels (215/55 R18 tyres), which are a direct lift from the MG Hector:

Since you get a bigger battery on the Pro, the maximum charging capability is also higher at 60 kW (45 kW for the 38 kWh battery). The estimated charging time for 20-80% on the 60 kW DC fast charger is ~50 mins. With the 7.4 kW AC fast charging, you can charge the Windsor EV Pro from 10-100% in about 9.5 hours. Note that the top-end Essence variant gets the 7.4 kW AC fast charger as a standard fitment (even with the 38 kWh battery pack), while the lower variants (Excite & Exclusive) get a slower 3.3 kW AC home charging box:

Still no rear wiper!

New on the Pro variant is the electronic tailgate. You can also operate it from the touchscreen, and the tailgate can go pretty high:

You can set the level at which you want it to open from the touchscreen:

New ADAS badge on the right-hand side of the tailgate. Only the Pro variant gets the ADAS features, the smaller battery pack version doesn’t:

The Pro version also gets vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities. The maximum amount of power output for the V2L is 3 kVA:

With the Pro variant, MG has introduced 3 new colour options. Aurora Silver (Our test car), this Glaze Red….

… and Celadon Blue:

MG Windsor EV PRO Interior Review

On the inside, you still get an all-black dashboard with bronze accents. No changes here:
MG Windsor EV PRO Review-2025_mg_windsor_ev_pro_interior_01.jpg

The Windsor EV Pro now gets level 2 ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, intelligent headlamp control and more:
MG Windsor EV PRO Review-2025_mg_windsor_ev_pro_interior_02.jpg

MG has introduced dual-tone ivory leather upholstery. It does look good, as some people don’t prefer the all-black seats. The seats are ventilated, and the driver’s seat is 6-way electrically adjustable. You don’t get lumbar support or height-adjustable seatbelts. Comfort levels are good, but not excellent:
MG Windsor EV PRO Review-2025_mg_windsor_ev_pro_interior_03.jpg

The massive 15.6-inch touchscreen unit gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity:
MG Windsor EV PRO Review-2025_mg_windsor_ev_pro_interior_04.jpg

You can switch off some of the ADAS features from the vehicle settings:
MG Windsor EV PRO Review-2025_mg_windsor_ev_pro_interior_05.jpg

The tailgate is now powered, and you get a small icon on the main screen at the bottom to open or close it. You can also adjust the opening position from the vehicle settings menu. Also found this interesting feature called as ‘Comfort Parking’, which basically numbs the brake pedal response at parking speeds to avoid unnecessary jerks:
MG Windsor EV PRO Review-2025_mg_windsor_ev_pro_interior_10.jpg

A look at the white upholstery of the rear seat. You can recline up to 135 degrees, and the underthigh support could’ve been better:

Driving the MG Windsor EV PRO

MG Windsor EV PRO Review-2025_mg_windsor_ev_pro_exterior_15.jpg

Powering the MG Windsor EV Pro is the same permanent magnet synchronous motor that we have driven earlier. It makes 134 BHP and 200 Nm, but now it is mated to a 52.9 kWh battery pack. The motor’s characteristics are the same, and the additional weight of the battery pack doesn’t make a huge difference in terms of performance or dynamics. Please check out our main review for the driving impressions by clicking here.

Just to give you a brief summary, the 134 BHP motor has enough power for the city as well as highway runs. You also get selectable drive modes and adjustable regen braking that are useful in various driving conditions. The suspension tune is a bit stiff, and you feel the bad roads, but it is livable. However, it is busy at the rear.

The big difference and the talking point is the new 52.9 kWh battery pack. It is worth noting that we’ve not seen this battery pack on any of the other MG cars. For reference, the ZS EV gets a 50.3 kWh battery pack. When you look internationally as well, the Baojun Yunduo or the Wuling Cloud EV (Indonesia) also gets a 50.6 kWh battery pack. When asked about this, we were told that this battery is exclusive to the Windsor EV Pro, but no other details were revealed. Thanks to BHPian 250Nm for some additional details on the battery pack in his post.

Range

The claimed range for the 38 kWh battery pack is 331 km as per MIDC Part 1 + Part 2. The same for the 52.9 kWh battery pack is 449 km. In our driving time with the MG Windsor EV Pro, we couldn’t do a proper range test, but a realistic range of 350 km seems achievable with normal driving. You could go up to 400 km with conservative driving. In our time with the Windsor EV Pro, we started off with ~80% of charge and drove roughly 190 km. We ended our drive with the battery percentage showing just above 20%. Note that we drove primarily on ghat roads in Normal mode and Sport mode with level 3 regen. We also kept the car stationary for a while during the shoot. We’ll wait for some ownership reviews to get the real-world range figure.

Charging

The Windsor EV Pro gets a 52.9 kWh LFP battery pack. The charging port is of the CCS 2 type, and the charging time for 10-100% on a 7.4 kW AC fast charger (standard with the Pro variant) is 9.5 hours. With DC fast charging on a 60 kW charger, the battery charges from 20-80% in 50 minutes. As mentioned earlier, the Windsor EV Pro gets vehicle-to-vehicle charging (V2V) or vehicle-to-load charging.

Re: MG Windsor EV PRO Review

Thanks for the review.

The first section mentions 'bumper houses the radar'.
Are you certain there is a radar, or is it a dummy? I believe the ADAS is exclusively single camera based. And not even the DJI dual camera setup as seen on the international models.

I would be glad to see some reviews of it's efficacy, and how intrusive it is in real world conditions thanks.

Re: MG Windsor EV PRO Review

I love the look in this aurora silver color.

I have a white windsor, we did not have much color options then, would have opted for this if it had been available

Please double check this point, as many of the initial views did not find a radar behind the bumper. It was just a dummy panel.

No rear wiper? Is it a joke to have all of those funky features nobody cares about but not something as basic as a rear wiper?

Re: MG Windsor EV PRO Review

MG could have made the pro version a bit more accessible. It would have been perfect if the pro versions had started from the mid trim level onwards IMO.

Re: MG Windsor EV PRO Review

Hi, thank you for sharing your initial impressions of the Windsor EV Pro. Could you please share your experience regarding the rear seat comfort, especially in terms of knee position due to the larger battery? Did you find the rear floor height to be the same as in the 38kWh variant or is the seating position slightly more knee-up in comparison?

Also, any updates on the AC performance; has it been improved over the 38kWh variant, or does it remain the same?

Re: MG Windsor EV PRO Review

Hi - Thanks for sharing your views on Pro variant.

How about ride quality? Is it any better than 38kwh variant?

The ride quality was a deal breaker earlier and really looking forward for test drive.

Re: MG Windsor EV PRO Review

I hope there is a more detailed review coming up.

The main questions that people had on the Windsor Pro thread were regarding ride quality vis-a-vis the non-pro model, and the efficacy of the ADAS system since it is based on a single camera. Would be good if the review is updated with these inputs.

The other question is regarding the floor height. Is it true that the floor height has remained unchanged from the non-Pro model?

Any impressions of the range in different driving conditions would also help, although i would trust long term reviews more on this point.
