Anyone here driving Reva in realtime driving in traffic?

how many KMS it runs per charge on actual driving condition and how is the maintenance costs?

I am considering Reva for driving in Bangalore city for 40 - 45 KMS per
day.

My brother-in-law used to have a Reva. He had it for 2.5 years during which even I've used it occasionally.

It was the basic version & had done 52000 Kms when he sold it.

Pros:

• Less than 1 Rupee / Km
• Best for Bangalore's traffic conditions

Cons:

• Limitation on per charge travel. Even though they claim 80 Kms per charge, practically it will never cross 75 Kms (Even when its new). Within a year that will come down to less than 70 Kms per charge. End of two years something around 65 Kms. The only remedy the company will offer you is Battery replacement at a cost of Rs. 55000.
• If you are stuck in heavy traffic, the above mileage can be discounted by up to 20% on account of constant braking.
• A_S_S is good only if you go to them. Their promise of mobile service never worked. My BIL never got them to come to his place. He always ended up going to their A_S_S after prolonged wait for their service people.
• Practically you can never travel with more than two people. The back seat is a namesake. Normal humans cant sit in that seat.
• Pick up is quite bad. If you had to stop on an incline, you better carry some rope, so that you can be hauled by someone else.
• Very shoddy and uncomfortable seat. Its only slightly better than 3rd class train bench. No adjustments what so ever.
• Windows are like STC bus's. Doors wont close properly if the windows are open. So you need to close the door first & then slide in the windows.
• After a month or so Rattles started. Which never stopped till my BIL found a buyer for his rattling trap.
• If you are driving in the night, the HL is non existent.

So with all of the above....would I buy it with my hard earned money? NO
Would I use it if I get it free? hmmmmmm maybe (with all the compromises)

@eclectix 1st: Thats one honest review. I used to think very highly of this car. I also saw some in Bangalore on a visit they are popular there.

75kms and not even that when you brake. Upon hearing about the sales service I would rather get myself a moped and paddle along, atleast in a crisis situation i still have a solution, ok sort of a solution

I did the test drive of Reva-i and my observations below.

-Vs

1. Steering is very small(doesn't look like a standard size)
2. Front seat is hard to sit.
3. bad brakes.
4. need to continuously watch the charge status while driving.
5. If you are driving 40 KMS per day, it needs daily charging.
6. Cost is very high for this 2 seater(approx 4.5 lacs)

+ve
1. It is very very easy to control and very smooth driving.
2. Pickup is enough for driving in crowded city.
3. low cost of running
4. can park in small parking areas and can take turns easily in small streets and for 'U' turns.
5. No clutch operation , just the accelerator and brake.
6. Just a turn knob switch to change for taking reverse.

The manufacturer should now utilize this rising fuel situation and make Reva much affordable, i am sure many will think of using this car in crowded cities, i am more frustrated in using clutch in crowded city like Bangalore, by the time i reach home the frustration level is too high.

I had a halarious incident on this once when me and wifey went to Jayanagar for shopping.

We had already taken one round looking for the parking around the Jayanagar 3/4th blk market in our Santro and it was almost dark in the evening.

During our second round, we saw 2 lights at a distant which were coming out from an angular parking space.

I floor my Santro, so that nonone else gets to it earlier than me.

When we reach few feets close to it, we see its a REVA and the Santro cant even fit in the space which it had vacated, as there was a tree trunk on one side of it.

We both had a good laugh then , I even smile nowdays remembering that episode.

Yup its a Tempo traveller. Left to right Accent, Baleno, Reva,TT and the Accord.

Very honest reviews above and a clean aerial view of the reva for a parking space comparison too ! I had considered a brand new Reva for my wife (she travels to work almost 40 kms up and down everyday in the mad traffic of bangalore). We could never digest the price part and the fragile overall finish of this small creature.

When tata is offering NANO for 1 lak with most of the standard features without compromise, why would anyone go for a cramped 2-seater which is underpowered, limited distance for a single charge, 4.5 laks + pricing, and many stupid drawbacks.

Suppose I get one free (as a gift from team-bhp or a relative !!), I will still have many issues using this. It will start from installing a charging point from my 3rd floor to the basement parking which is over 200 meters. We have many unofficial power-cuts around the area that will make the Reva remain in the parking on all such days. Returning from office is always after 7pm that means extra powerful headlights and battery pack to support it (may be 2 britelite torch fixed on the bumper might serve the purpose)
