Guess who just offered support to the Indica EV?

Quote:
Mumbai, September 18, 2009: Tata Motors European Technical Centre plc (TMETC) appreciates the 10 million loan, under the UK government’s Automotive Assistance Programme (AAP), to develop and manufacture the Tata Indica Vista Electric Vehicle in the UK with an investment of 25 million. The Tata Indica Vista EV will be the first four-seater electric car with a range of up to 200 km to become available this year in Europe.

TMETC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors in the UK, engaged in design engineering and development of automobiles, working synergistically with Tata Motors.
Yup, its obvious that Tata is developing the Vista EV as well. Only real challenge : Current battery technology (in terms of life & range) and cost.

So finally the UK govt agrees lend money!

This will be a good learning curve for Tata. By the time India gets ready for the electric vehicles, it will have a homegrown major with the expertise.

Seems like Lord. Mendelsen wants to have TATA assemble the car in England instead of Spain or Norway.

IMO Italy, Spain or Germany makes more sense, since it is in the continental europe and would be easier to distribute the cars. May be TATA could use one of FIAT's plants to build this car in Europe..

Anyways, it is good to see that the pomps are finally realizing TATA's potential
