Ever imagined that an electric car could beat the Enzo and the One (McLaren F1) in the top speed race ?? The Ellica (short for Electric Lithium-Ion battery Car ) is out to do that.

Read more abt the Ellica here : Auto Express

Did someone say that the 2005 Hyundai Accent is ugly?
This Ellica may be the fastest car in the world, but, it is the ugliest too.

Mostly..the cars made by groups or small companies always use lights, mirrors, and other small stuff made my big car manufacturers to complete their car... that helps them in saving some bucks!! And usually...this stuff used goes well with the car!!!

I wouldn't buy one even if it went faster than light. it's too bloody ugly. And silent, at that. I need a roaring engine!!!!!!!

I can't believe we'll have to drive cars without a petrol engine in the future!! Agreed that the power is there, but wht abt the music of a sweet revving petrol engine??

Did i hear someone say Hyundai??
This has to be the fastest and ughhhhliest in the competition. But i dunt understand one thing,if its fast enough why not make it look a lil better and more stylish than this one?
I mean u've got the performance but no style,so improvise on that.It might sell better!

Was looking the FT today and find this interesting article. Thought would be good to be shared in T-BHP. And as usual, its already been discussed

Anyway, updates

Quote:
The main difference between Mr Shimizu’s design and that of a “conventional” electric car is that instead of using a single, centrally located motor, the Eliica has a smaller one mounted behind each of its eight wheels. Mr Shimizu likens the configuration to the networks of desktop PCs that have largely replaced bulky mainframes.
As the Eliica’s motors drive its wheels directly, there is none of the energy loss that occurs when power from a single engine is transmitted via gears, driveshafts and axles to multiple wheels. Eliminating the Eliica’s transmission system makes it 30 to 50 per cent more efficient than other electric cars, according to Mr Shimizu.
FT.com / Reports - Automobiles: In-wheel motors increase speed as well as range

Quote:
What is more, he says such a car could be mass-produced cheaply enough for its manufacturer to earn a profit selling it for just Y1.5m ($16,500), excluding the battery. “At that price the economic value becomes clear for consumers,” he says
Quote:
It goes like a rocket too. Tests conducted by SIM-Drive, the company set up by Keio and a group of investors to commercialise the Eliica’s underlying technology, put its top speed at 370kph (230mph) – faster than the most asphalt-roasting Ferrari. Racing on a drag strip against a Porsche 911, in a contest that can be watched on YouTube, the Eliica pips the German roadster, accelerating to 100km/h from a standing start in just 4.1 seconds.
