A quick update to this. I consulted a vet, he gave some pain killers for the cat. For 3 - 4 days she slept a lot, now she's recovered well. Her leg is fine and the swelling is gone. The vet said it was Galactostasis (swelling due to excess milk). Now she's slowly adapting to us, she's very active when it's her play time which is usually after 8 p.m. At the moment she's a indoor - outdoor cat , as she doesn't like being locked up in home at night.
Got her a bed, a cat's toy to play with . Here she's sleeping peacefully in her bed. Feels so good to see her

A cat that knows it now has a home is a very rewarding thing!

It is also a thing that will soon be the boss of that home

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Never in my wildest dream I had imagined that I would be writing this. Within hours of my last post, my beloved cat is no more. She woke up in evening, meowed at me, rubbed against my feet, I gave her a bowl of milk and she went out in the parking. I went to get something in my room and heard noises, rushed quickly outside, 3 street dogs were attacking my poor baby. I shouted, hit the dogs but it was too late. My poor girl died, very frightened, in front of me. I've been weeping since. The pain is insufferable. The cat I loved dearly has died. That she was a cat and not a human being doesn’t make that any easier to say or to cope with. It feels like I have shards of broken glass in my heart, and my eyes ache from all the tears. Farewell baby and keep purring. I'm so sorry I couldn't do anything to save you.
Sleep well baby. Sleep well.

Extremely sorry for your loss brother. Nothing that I say here will make it better but still. Losing a family member (and she was one) is hard. I can only say that at least in her last few days (/months) she got all the love she could have got from anyone - that is the best we can try to do for them through their short lives.

That is so sad. I'm very sorry, and very sympathetic because apart from witnessing the actual attack, I've been there too. In fact I'm beginning to loose count.

So sorry.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

I'm terribly sorry for your loss Akshay. She is an absolutely gorgeous and adorable girl and I can only try to imagine the pain you are feeling. Take solace that you were by her side always.

She would have surely known how much you love her.

I'm so sorry. Hopefully you can see her again someday.

I know how it feels Akshay, having gone through the pain recently. You did whatever was in your hands to take care of her. Many times fate is cruel and we have to accept that. Be contented knowing that you took good care of her when she was with you. And there was nothing you could have done to prevent this. It was not in your control. Do not feel guilty. Rather remember the happy memories with her

May her RIP

Terrible news indeed! I completely understand your emotions, having dealt with similar situations in the past and unfortunately I am enduring one presently. Just yesterday, I lost one of my buddies, a 43 years old soft spoken gentleman due to cardiac arrest. Fate is one thing that is beyond anyone's control. Don't take things to your heart too much, I know it's easier said than done. What has transpired is certainly not because of your lack of care or efforts.TIME has the power to heal, TIME will weave it's magic. Take care.

Gentleman thank you for your kind words, I am bit calm now. I've made peace that my cat died with her belly full and knowing that she had a home and people who loved her. Being a first time pet parent, I was devastated to say the least. I look at her favorite chair which she would sit in, slept in it and I remember her
Hope I can get another pet some day. Again thank you guys.

Losing a pet is hard. Having been through that twice, I'd say every time it hurts and takes time to heal (haven't still moved on completely). But I would recommend to adopt another street kitten or from the numerous adopters/fosters. You would be doing that kitten/cat a great benefit and in return your pain of losing the earlier cat gets better.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

We have a stray cat that has laid claim on our house and garden and demands food on occasion.
Last few months we have grown fond of him and miss him when he goes AWOL for days.

Sometimes he eats chapatis and sometimes just refuses. Same with milk. I have never seen a cat refuse milk. Last time when he refused milk, we had dried fish handy which he devoured. My mom readily suggested not to spoil him with fish and meat else he will never eat chapatis!

What's the 'right' food for such cats? It feels bad when he meows for a long time and finally leaves without eating/drinking anything. Is he not hungry and just wants attention?

We do pet him. But with a catch. You can't pet him anywhere else apart from his head. Scratches below the neck are okay too and he visibly loves it but any touch on the back, paws, legs, underbelly and he flinches. Conversely, he has to rub his whole body against my legs 3-4 times and stand between legs. We always had dogs before and cats are an unknown territory. We don't want spook and make him gone forever.

Cat tax:
