A stray dog attack?
Although the cut appears too neat to be accidental. I hope it wasn't some psycho with a blade.

This would affect her balance for a while so climbing and jumping would be somewhat challenging. A cat's tail is used as a counterbalance aside from communicating with it.

Should get used to it though, certain breeds of cats have very short tails.

Attachment 2702007

I'm hoping this will not affect her hunting or climbing/jumping skills.
My guess is a cat fight or a bigger cat injuring this one due to territorial issues. I have seen cats with cut tails living long. It must have some adverse effect in the cat's life and day to day activities but they survive more or less fine.

Oh, I had the opportunity to live close by, when this set up was coming over, that time there were only 2 elephants, few camels and few antelopes. This Jr Ambani have a super affection with animals. It's commendable the work he's being doing for the distressed animals. The artificial forest being created is worth a visit, for sure, one needs super deep pockets and the will to do something and appreciate this guy for doing that.

I remember he used to ride elephant in the township and people used to murmur, to see an elephant riding an elephant, which was super distasteful and I tried to correct few, but guess we aren't born animal lovers to understand and have mental capacity for such things.

Here in Bangalore, even 12 or 13 degrees celcius is being recorded at night. So the cats sleep in this Zameen/Bhoo/Ground chakra pose:

Favorite pastime when it is cold outside is to watch the birds and squirrels from the bedroom:

Our dog MAX discovers a mirror

The first few times MAX did not recognize himself in the mirror, but now he ignores the mirror.

I believe he has understood the reflection is harmless and is not a threat to him or his food.

His reaction seems to be out of curiosity and to an extent fear. As he does bark at dogs, cats, cattle, hen around the place.

How nice it would have been if we could understand our pets, animals, birds we interact with?

MUSKY the Civet Cat

This Civet is almost a pet, it frequents our house every night. The mammal is nocturnal, hence we have never seen it in person.

We are made aware of it's presence from its droppings, which are always seeds of some fruit it has consumed. papaya seeds, coffee beans and seeds of the small wild jackfruit.

Off late we became aware of it's presence when our dog says hello to the Civet by barking.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Quick query, last night our dogs were barking profusely and wanted to go to the back yard. They have never done this before in the middle of the night, so I got up and let them go there, assuming they want to relieve themselves. But they kept on barking in the back yard, I was still half sleepy, till I saw 5 palm sized kittens lying on the grass and unfortunately 4 of them were dead already. Saw 1 of them moving and got him/her inside and kept in a woolen cloth inside a dog cage.

The rescued one was meowing all night with no mother insight, now the question, how and what can I feed her, tried to feed her lactose free milk mixed with water with a syringe, but of no use, she's not taking it. I fear that she might also die. Apart from that, I just have some dry kibble for dogs/cats and when kept in hands, she's trying to nibble the back of the hand or palm.

As a relatively new cat parent, coming from a house thars always had dog/s - cats are really surprising pets to have and kudos to trying to help this kitten.

I'd advise take him/her to a vet to get checked out since their siblings are dead and for the safety of your other pets at home to rule out any infection.
Regarding food, it's advisable to buy some wet kitten food as I've noticed strays adapting to it easily and quickly - and then can switch them to dry kibble mix / non veg if you eat at home once they've grown a little older. Kittens need a little more food as they are growing compared to adult cats (like 4 meals vs 2 meals albeit little less in quantity).

We recently found a kitten left by her mother because she had some sort of eye infection. It was about 3 weeks old, in your case this one looks like a new born so things might vary a bit.
First couple of weeks we gave her diluted milk and ORS.
Now she is 4 months old now, healthy and has joined the rest of the cat gang at home.

From the looks of it, the kitten looks under 8 weeks (which is the earliest a kitten can survive without their mother's milk). I would second the advice on reaching out to a vet for food option asap.

Dry food would not work at all. Even wet food might be tough for the kitten and might have to be watered down. A vet can advise you on the easiest option (generally a mix of milk and other ingredients based feeding via syringe). The next few days or even hours will be vital so please get that help if you already haven't.

Thanks, yeah planning to take her to the vet, but here the timings have changed due to Ramadan month and unfortunately that's not matching with my work timings, so trying to drag till weekend.

Thanks, this one looks like a new born, even the umbilical cord was dangling. Got a pet syringe and nipple, just got to know she took some drops of milk & water. I hope she survives the next few days. My dogs are getting crazy & hyper with this new born at home, even if this puny guy is in the cage.

Thanks, when I saw the kitten probably the age was in hours. Yeah surely dry food won't work. I was looking for some out of box ideas to feed such a little kitten, as never dealt them before.

Lets see how next few days pass by, fingers crossed !! Surprised to see that the mother abandons the litter, so very un-natural or is that common

It’s quite common. Reasons could be many - mother is not well, or attacked by other animals including male cats, or the mother cat got killed, or she inferred the kittens were not healthy, etc. Seems cruel but in a way that’s nature’s way of managing population control (a female cat can give litter of 4-6 kittens every 3 months); right from the age of 6 months.
