@gd1418:
Well there is warm and there is too warm.

@robimahanta:
Excellent shots sir. The HDR is what an HDR should be - does not look like an HDR. Plus you seem to have some awesome equipment. Your bird pictures are simply too good.

A visit to National Zoo, Washington DC

Visited the National Zoo at Washington DC last weekend. Amazing place for animal lovers. The way they have maintained the entire zoo is very commendable. I thought that animals won't be outside in such cold weather (-5 degrees), but they were out and very very active .

Here are some photos I like. All taken using my 55-300mm lens hand-held.

7 months young lion cubs. There were total 7 of them. They were playing with each other all the time. Never bothered with all the crowd that was gathered to watch them.

@gd1418: Please refer to this edited image of yours, I have brought in more dynamic range except in a small rectangular region inside the picture which is very easy to identify. Inside that rectangle I have preserved the original image as it was posted by you. Hope this clarifies. This is a manual processing in CS4 but for more original dynamic range you can create and HDR or blend exposures.

Agree. Nice shot, but it doesn't look very 'HDR-ish'
And, I still say the same thing about the pictures... bit too warm still Looks like an orange color cast all over the pictures.

@robi: The owl picture is beautiful.. and sharp too!
@Gandhi: Nice clicks

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Aha, now I get it. What you mean is post processing. Well, that's not my cup of tea. I do not PP my photos. The only PP that I ever do is cropping and that's all.

I like my pictures as it is. If you shall see al my pictures in the past and acurrent they are minus PP..

What you have done to my picture looks great, but somehow I feel that the character is missing.

I did not mean post processing because that's too general a term for describing what I have done. HDR creation or exposure blending is just a part of it but are not limited to post processing alone but to shooting the picture as well because you need to take multiple exposures.

Any camera has its limitations and so some images can't represent what exactly human eye saw. Dynamic range is the best example, our eyes can see a lot more dynamic range than any camera can see through a single exposure.

Some cameras even have built in HDR processing, where this kind of processing happens within the camera itself while the jpeg is made. Some have Dynamic Range Optimization. Canon recently patented a technology where they control the exposure for every pixel individually so that one single click can capture a very wide dynamic range.

Perfect HDR according to me. Thats what I hate about few HDR images posted here previously, its made too artificial far from reality. Owl image takes the cake, too good and crisp ! I think you are on the way to giving up the stethoscope to be with Nat Geo ! Let me know if you need guidance, I know 3 docs who have done that already.

@Gandhi (Ronak)
Lovely pictures. However, there is visible vignetting. Is this deliberate or an after effect of taking photos at the longest end of the zoom? Pictures look great in any case.

@royalcruiser:
Ask clevermax. Oh wait, I can see that he has already answered and you passed the test.

@shaju:
Stop being so humble. You take some brilliant snaps as well.

If you look at the closeness of that image to reality, yes I agree that it looks perfect. But for this, one need not process HDR, as it can be easily achieved from one shot and a bit of adjustments during PP.

I love surreal looking images - HDR or not. It shows an artist's vision of what otherwise looks to be a normal everyday scene of some place or some object, in the eyes of many. An artist has all the freedom to explore the limits of his camera and creative ability.. That can produce very artistic images. I am not saying that shooting everything close to reality is bad.

Taken atop Ratnadurga fort during my trip in Dec '10. I waited for a while for several other trawlers to clear off and then got this one lone trawler

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Excellent image of the Sun streaks Fazal Sir, the location and fall colors are making it extra beautiful. I shot a few in green surroundings sometime back, but seeing your capture I feel the reds, yellows and greens mix give it a much much better look, very nice indeed!
