My take on the Super Moon

What I figured out going after the 'Super Moon' with my puny 70-300mm and no tripod was that all efforts would be in vain. I would either get a totally washed out picture or an extremely blurry one. In all cases, the moon would not be very clear. Especially if one cropped and magnified the image. I therefore gave up, and placed my camera on the roof of my car and took this 10 second exposure.

Self criticism

I am a bit perplexed with that second orb, diagonally below the big orb and to the left of the building. The building is slightly tilted, but I really had no choice as there were planes going across the frame on their way to land at Mumbai's airport

I really need to get a tripod. I also need a longer focal length. The first I can get soon, the second is too expensive. RAW from camera, processed in GIMP.

Re: My take on the Super Moon

That is called flaring. What lens were you using and was that without hood? Lens Hood reduces the flaring a lot..

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Went to Varkala beach with Jkdas and Nutty.. we sat for hours in a restaurant facing the seashore. It was a wonderful evening, even though it was overcast and it rained for a while. As Nutty says, Varkala is addictive!!

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

That's a nice shot @Condor, nice lighting you found there.
@Sidkun, liked the last but 3rd and the last shot. Nice POV.
@Clever, nice one there. HDR, I suppose? There is a tilt towards left and I guess the shot would be better with the tilt corrected.

My memories are rusting it seems. Time to take another trip to Ladakh. Who's in?

Thanks GD. I will try the hood next time. Not too sure if I had the hood on during the time of this shot.

Hood is not going to help if the bright light source is directly into the middle of your lens. Hood saves you from cases where the light might be falling of the corner of the frame. AFAIK.

Yes, that's right!

Yes, it is an HDR. And yes there is a tilt towards the left, but I guess it blends into the overall curvy lines in the frame Thanks!

Couple more from Varkala.

Somehow I dont like HDR, espacially that glow effect in HDR.

Addictive... is it because of those white girl

I've tried not to bring that glow around darker edges in the picture, it's almost not there

Nutty will answer the second part

Which is my understanding as well. As I stated, I do not know whether I had the hood on at that time. I have seen this behaviour even on my 50mm prime. In all cases, there is a bright light involved. Heh heh.

Good one and I know from this image why Nutty feels its addictive Please dont send him alone anytime.

Its been 6 days, here I have 2 images with similar theme. First one from 'Chotti Holi' firewood preparation and second one from a Rangoli competition last weekend. Both are with 50mm f/1.4. Somehow I have become very choosy with my own images, not liking even 5% of what is clicked. Finding reasons !
