I think what's happening here is that this "3D effect" is giving you a shallower depth of field than your P&S camera usually does - and this is what you are calling a '3D effect'.

For example, see the FLY picture just above this post (which has a shallow DOF). Its quite similar to your '3D photos' right?

These work pretty well. Though i feel this one might have been better if it was alternating a little faster

Using these two frames, we can make a 3D photograph, but you still would require special viewing mechanism to view it in 3D - this can be done in many new TV's with 3D capability - you still have to wear glasses to bring these frames separately into each eye.

Another possibility is to create a 3D photo in 3D phones likes Optimus 3D or Evo 3D and view that in their screen - that will also be 3D.

The 'depth' you are talking about in our usual monitors isn't 3D, whatever we do! Only possibility to view 'some' 3D in these normal monitors is Anaglyph, that too would require red-cyan glass though.
Technically you could also use stereograms. Focus your eyes behind the screen and you see a 3D flower appear in front of you

I dont know how to explain this,

below are the two pictures combined,
The Official non-auto Image thread-first_second-image.png

and below is the image , which is the '3D', which is actually the first image only on an normal display, but on a 3D display the picture should be like a proper 3D, a combined image , thats what the camera manual says at least.

here are the simple art filter instructions, sorry this is Samsung Galaxy Ace Quality.

So like clevermax said, display must be 3D!! not sure glass or glassless.

If its outputting the '3D' image as a JPG (which i think it is) -- i don't think viewing it on a 3D screen will make any difference here, as the image format doesn't have a way to do 3D (AFAIK) and the image doesn't seem to be special in any way (ie alternating lines = alternating viewpoints, etc)

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Was in Kolkata two days ago & stayed at the ITC Sonar. They have a beautiful Lotus Pond inside the premises visible from all rooms. I love Lotus flowers and couldn't resist clicking. Here are the results.

Thanks for those pics. Certainly beautiful!

It rained quite a lot on Friday night, and this is what I saw on Saturday morning. Now that's just the roof of my Swift, but this really doesn't merit being in the Auto Image thread IMO!

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Why is the picture so overexposed? If the background was so bright, you could have underexposed a bit to enhance the subject.
