Nice! I have a friend around San Mateo, who is also seriously into photography - his name is Azi, ex IIT Kgp. Not sure whether you guys frequent the same circles.

A few old photos from MP.

Torqueguru, one noobish question , by any chance any filter was used? (GND, ND etc.)
Exposure is shadow areas has come out very well.

Manual Mode is good for experiments. And I have a proof for that.
Cam: Sony DSC H55
Mode: Manual
EXIF: ISO: 100
Aperture: f/3.5
Exposure: 30s
Focal Length: 4.3 mm

No PP here.

Cheers,

Great shots again Nilanjan! I live in Seattle and not in the Bay Area, so no clue about the San Mateo photography circle.

I did not use any filters. The shadow areas were actually lit up by the setting sun that peek through holes in the clouds. Also, I boosted it very subtly using the shadows bar in Lightroom. The D800's dynamic range is quite awesome!

Why was exposure of 30s needed for this shot? Was it shot in darkness? Also, please click an AUTO shot with macro mode, or perhaps on P mode with 400ISO if AUTO picks up too high an ISO, and post the results. My guess is they will mostly match this.

Not to discourage or discredit you friend, pls take the above post in good gesture.

Yeah, it was an experimental shot as I was testing the capabilities of the camera. It certainly worked for me and Manual mode is the best for one who needs to explore the limits of the camera. Will surely try out the methods you told me! Thank you.

Here is a photo which I did in Manual mode once again, hope you guys like it

Cheers,

Achyuth

More photos from Madhya Pradesh forests

A Mahua flower on a wooden post. Our safari Gypsy stopped for a couple of minutes after a great tiger sighting, and I saw this beside the trail. This can be made into a great local liquor - in Bengal and Chhotonagpur area, Santhals (local tribals) hold fantastic singing and dancing sessions around a campfire, after a health dose of Mahua liquor.

A dancing peacock, shot through intervening shrubs. This hero was showing off for a couple of potential girlfriends, who were hanging around nearby.

Thanks. I am just revisiting some photos from my 2011 MP trip - that time I had no clue about post processing. Since I can't do a roadtrip right now - which I am craving for - I am consoling myself by working on old photos.

The peacock is a cropped one, I had to shoot through two trees and branches and twigs.

Here's one taken on the way to Bandhavgarh. A less traveled road in MP, approaching evening, a villager hurrying back home before darkness descends. We heard that leopards were common on these roads after dark.

Your location says SF, so was wondering

Love the set of shots. Btw, if I didn't focus on wildlife, I would have gone for the D800 someday - the DR is fantastic.

A question: why are you shooting on manual mode for all shots? Just experimenting? Because most of the time aperture mode and shutter speed mode are perfectly adequate with the modern sensors.

Btw, this thread seems a little slow, seems most folks are keeping busy
