They have lowered to 750/-

Why not unlimited 750/-?
Because its download is capped @ 256kbps or less

I have used vsnl dial up in its PSU days; from which I changed over to BSNL dialup to BSNL dataone to Asianet to VSNL (tata) to Reliance boredband.

Best experience so far has been BSNL dataone, which in spite of screwing up their DNS servers once in a while, proved very good uptime. I got over the DNS servers by setting up my own, to query the root servers!!!

VSNL and BSNL dialup (more than 4 years back) have been reasonably good.

Asianet cable modem has been VFM, but the occassional trucker mowing down their cables has been a problem.

Reliance's boredband has been crabb13st of them all. I have set up the system to fetch mail automatically. So I usually switch on the system and come back after some time, and mail would have come down by then. This was essential, because I subscribe to several mailing lists, and get around 100 Mails per day. But Reliance has screwed this.

Though I get IP address through DHCP, reliance require a web login, which simply cannot be automated for the net connection to work. And no, this web login too is not automatic - the way gmail or yahoo allows you to automatically log in when the browser is opened; you need to open the page, and click on the button. And the page which has to stay open is flash heavy, taking up much of system resources.

I tried several methods to trick the web login system - curl, perl, bash, whatever, and I gave up.

20 days into the 6 month subscription, I am already looking for alternatives.

I do not require more than 64Kbps, but want unlimited download.

VSNL's 64KBPS boredband, which they have discontinued in Kerala (hence change over to Reliance) was so-so; because I am unable to configure the computer to get the public IP. It is the router / modem which gets the public IP, and the computer gets a LAN IP. I hate that - for security reasons. After all, what is better than a well configured Debian system?

8Mbps Airtel DSL
Over the years have graduated from BSNL dial-up to the previous avatar of Airtel called Mantra Online to Reliance fixed wireless CDMA 128kbps (after-sales was terrible) to Sify Broadband 256kbps (lousy reliability) to Airtel 512kbps then 2Mbps and now 8Mbps. Airtel has, by far, been the best of the bunch.
