Re: Calling Networking and Server specialists!

Have been trying to connect two modem routers at home so that the second one acts as a switch cum access point by turning off its' DHCP server.

All these terms are taken/learned from the internet as I'm a noob at networking. is the video I followed.

It worked fine for a couple of weeks but after it failed I reset the second router and tried turning off the DHCP server which is when I loose access to the router. Autoconfigip kicks in to some 169.x.x.x ip (found using ipconfig) and I cannot log in to the router admin page. If I reset again, I can gain access using 192.168.1.1 but I am not able to turn off DHCP then.

Anything I'm missing? I do not want to use a wifi repeater. I need ethernet and wifi at the second space.

Which modem / router are you using and what mode are you using to connect them - ethernet or wifi? Some routers can be configured directly from the settings as Access Point / Repeater.

I had tried connecting a TP Link AC Dualband router to a Netgear router which didn't work out too well. Whereas with Belkin router instead of Netgear, everything was fine except range and security. So finally gave up on all trials and got another TP Link Wireless N Access point - which took not more than 2 minutes to configure.

I have two D-link 2730U ADSL modem routers which I am trying to connect through ethernet. I didn't find a direct option for using one as an access point.

Strangely the setup was working fine for a week or so!
