HDTV - URGENT Help !

Hey guys..am planning to buy a 42-50 inch HDTV Compatible Projection TV tomorrow..please suggest good models/and places to buy from..in Mumbai.Don't wanna go in for Plasmas, since their life is around 3 years only, and plus the budget is a problem..have a budget of Rs80,000 max.
Have a 34 inch Sony Wega currently, and need to exchange it with new one..so,need a retailer who will have exchange offers.
Hoping to get a few replies soon, till the time I head out to buy it tomorrow evening !

why HDTV now? most sources today dont offer compatible signals yet. the 34" Wega is nice machine.

Plasma live is much greater than 3 years but most wont fit you 80K budget anyway.

Depending on the conditions of your TV room and your budget how about looking at DLP projectors ?
Amazing quality.

Philips introduced a couple of CRT TV's 34" (4:3) and 36" (16:9) under their Pixel Plus bandwagon..

They are high definition and offer picture quality that is way better than the projection TV (DLP may be a pretty good bet too)..

I got the 36" widescreen as it makes watching DVD movies a pleasure.. It may make viewing regular TV a bit of a challenge as people look fatter.. but you have the ability to change to 4:3 format to view TV (albeit using a smaller screen real-estate).

About 1.5 years ago, the price tag was abt 96K.. (The 34" was abt 72K then). It must have gotten substantially lower today.. If it is still in the market, it's a pretty good bet IMHO..

And CRT has the advantage of a longer lifespan and has been around as a technology for awhile now..

PS: You do not get to see this TV in all showrooms (as it is not a mass market product and may have a really long shelf life).. you may have to talk to someone who specializes in hometheater stuff, etc..

Plasma televisions last a lot longer than 3 years.

If by projection tv you mean a rear projection tv then I would not even be looking at them. The picture quality sucks. If the lamp goes it can cost a bit of money and also they are prone to burn in (lots of such cases in the UK where tv channel logos displayed in the corner of television broadcasts got burned on to the screens).

A conventional CRT is better than a projection tv.

Navin or others... Any comments on Sony Grand Wega series TVs? Looks like they are slimmer than rear projection TVs. I am looking at them as alternative to Plasma / LCD
