Now you are making us jealous of the lucky folks in Bangalore. Why is the upload speed higher than the download speed ?

Most people are downloading, than uploading. So less competition for uploads.

I find it strange that both times you are getting slower download speeds. I am on the 40 Mbps plan and the speed shows 42-25 regularly.

Chennai folks have 60Mbps/125GB plan for 1999 which is still paisa vasool than anything that Airtel offers.

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

I've been on ACT FTTH for the last 6 months or so, and the experience has been astounding!

I've never had any downtime that I can remember, speed is 100% what is promised, pings are ludicrously low, and 125 GB of FUP ceiling is absolutely acceptable!

I just wish ACT would expand its operating area at the earliest. That way we can all get rid of the disease that is Failtel!

Thanks to Samurai posting his speed, I have raised a query with them. Hopefully with more queries they should expand to other areas in Chennai. I had used Beam in Hyd, and that got me hooked.

Is that for real!!! The speed is ridiculous. Finally we have an ISP who believes in giving you speed. Unfortunately, they are not in Mumbai. We are stuck with MTNL, Airtel, Reliance and what not. Their monthly rates go higher once in a while but the speed comes down often. On top of it we hear Airtel snooping on people's browsing patterns and selling them to ad makers.

I didn't check this thread of late, so apologies for the delayed response.

The best way to disconnect Failtel broadband? Tell them you are leaving the country!

And that you are leaving by the end of the month, so you wont be available on the number after 30th.

That's it! Call the tech support, tell the agent upfront that you need to disconnect, with the reasoning, and to transfer your call to the appropriate department, stat!
Sorry for the delayed reply. I am yet to close Airtel. A certain turn of events made me stick to them for a lesser priced plan which is not available in the list of plans in their site.

I am mainly sticking for the telephone plan that they introduced recently. My immediate reaction is that I might need it but upon usage if I don't find it useful, I shall use that reason you mentioned to get rid of them.

ACT has been serving me well for the past couple of months (Touchwood)

Is anyone using You Broadband in Bangalore ?
http://www.youbroadband.in/

Any direct opinions based on your usage ?
The Net reviews are quite bad for this company.

Yesterday they setup a camp at our Apt so wanted to check.

Am using them in Chennai. I call them a part time isp. It works for two to three days max at a stretch and then goes down for at least a day, sometimes two. Poorest customer service and website for raising complaints. So unless one is calm inside and needs them for part time and maybe only downloads, give them a pass. I have two connections at home, other one being airtel and that keeps me connected, albeit at only 2mbps.

We have used Youbroadband for over 7 years. That was an unlimited 256kbps connection which actually gave us barely 100kbps tops. The connection went on the blink every few days. Still the only reason I persevered for so long was - it cost us Rs 9k per annum including a static IP address. Our linux box was connected to this line and people can access this from anywhere - when it is working.

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

I am the only one with a lowly 1 Mbps connection here, I suppose.

I am also probably the only one using ICC broadband (which is also a cable TV provider).

The uptime of the service is really unpredictable and that is the only reason why I have been looking at alternatives.

BSNL's plans are really not exciting at all and I must say they are quite expensive. (So I stopped their broadband 1 year ago)
There are no other wired alternatives in my area.

For the wireless, we have not much to choose from (network coverage is an issue).

Airtel 4G is ridiculously expensive (and gave less than 500 Kbps when we got the demo)

Now I am trying to use Reliance CDMA with an unlocked dongle as my backup connection for home.

Currently I am exploring the use of antenna or signal booster to be installed in the balcony or the terrace.

At Bombay they give me a speed of 38 MBPS as I use the wireless router otherwise it is 50 MBPS. Pl do check with them
Only problem is that their customer service is poor.

Hey, thanks!

There are many providers in Pune, but most of them do not operate in all areas. Considering the proximity to Defence area, laying cables is also not allowed where I live.
Anyway, Hathway does not operate here; its competitor ICC does not allow it to enter I suppose.

Edit: In my Mumbai home, we had Hathway for a long time - it was painful. Then we switched to Tikona - which was another joke.
Now it is MTNL which is not value for money.

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

I have a BSNL ADSL connection. For long I have been using the 1800 Plan (40GB, 2Mbps). Recently switched to the 1745 Plan (30GB, 8Mbps) which is a VDSL plan.
I was of the impression that one needs to have a VDSL modem to opt for a VDSL plan, but it is not. I am getting an average speed of 6.5Mbps now.
