100 is far away, still not able to get the claimed 40!
How is it now? Still @ 40 speeds?

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

Mtnl has upgraded their VDSL speeds to 50Mbps. The problem is still no upgrade to the 60GB per month data.

They need to update this as well as 60GB is just barely enough for us for a month and I dont even game nowadays. This is the Rs 1600/mo plan which is third lowest. After this prices increase quite steeply for very little gain in data. For this month there is 50% more data free but still I think faster internet with the same old insufficient download limit is more frustrating than fun. Though MTNL is still pretty fast and reliable in my area.

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

Anyone in Bangalore on the Airtel 40mbps Optic fiber line connection ?
Wanted to get some feedback on the stability of the connection.

Reason I am asking is because currently I am on the 16mbps non-optic fiber line, this one is very stable.
However since they informed that Optic Fiber 40mbps was available in my area, I opted for it on 2nd Jan. Till date the connection is not given, they keep pushing it saying it will be ready in 3 days , citing delays due to some technical issues with the optic fiber line.

I do a lot of WFH, and hence line stability is a critical criteria for me. So wanted to know if anyone had any feedback.

Airtel almost always takes a lot of time to set up the connection but I have seen they are fairly stable. When you WFH, always have a backup though.

In such scenarios, its best to have a backup link. My primary connection is ACT 100mbps/300GB. But I keep a backup airtel 8mbps/60GB DSL line for times when the fiber line goes down (power outages cause a reset on this - not sure why!).

Any suggestions on good service providers

Would be returning to India after 3 years.

When I left, was using BSNL's so called broadband. Speed was sufficient for browsing. But now prisoner of net based services and entertainment, hence was looking at some decent service providers in and around Sangli-Kolhapur-Satara zone of Maharashtra.

Any recommendations?

BSNL website still markets 4mbps for the highest paid broadband plan.(home combo)

Rgds.

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

Earlier i was using BSNL broadband here in Chandigarh with a 4 mbps plan and ended up paying about 1400 a month. Now i have shifted over to Netplus broadband with a 999 per month plan. 200 gb at 20 mbps followed by 5 mbps unlimited. Great experience.

I have been using BSNL from a very long time and trust me it is time for a change. ACT in Bangalore offers 100mpbs speeds at lesser price that what BSNL is offering. It is time to let go of sentiments, loyalty et al and move to newer technology and offerings

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

This month ACT sent me a message that they are increasing my volume limit from 150GB to 250GB, free of cost. This happened because Hathway offered 205GB in our building last month. Both are for 100Mbps connections, for which Hathway charges 999/pm and ACT charges 1999/pm. Since I don't trust Hathway service levels, I am sticking to ACT.

ACT has increased both the speed and the FUP across all the plans for all the customers. Having tried BSNL, Airtel, Hathway, I would vouch for ACT as the best ISP provider, at least in Bangalore. Not even a single day in last 3 years, the connection has gone down. Only fly in the ointment with ACT is, that it's not available in all the locations across Bangalore.

The payouts remain the same, however had to pay 1000 rupees for the fancy looking new router, as the old one provided was not compatible!
Hi. Could you please tell what router you are using now to use Airtel's v fiber. I am currently using Airtel's standard dsl connection with a dlink 2750u wifi modem + router. Will i have to change my router to use v fiber?

Hi,
While talking to Airtel recently about upgrading my plan, they mentioned that for the new v-fibre based plans with higher speeds, I will need to upgrade my standard adsl modem to a new one. They quoted a price of Rs 1000 for the new modem.

Best Regards,
anandpkumar

P.S - I am based in Ahmedabad. I ended up moving to a Reliance Jio wi-fi connection in the end since the Airtel connection quality in my area is quite bad, and I was fed up with the frequent connection drops. So far Jio wi-fi has been working well for me.
