Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

If I tell them I want to disconnect since I am moving to BSNL, will they offer me a better plan?

Yes they will, they aren't supposed to let a customer go without attempting to retain them. You should just send a disconnect request and allow the retention team to call you for the reason. That's when you break it to them.

Yes they will. And it'll be a very nice one too. When I tried to shut mine down, when I had a 4 mbps 15gb for around 1000 bucks, they went after me with same billing, same speed, stated with 30 GB, then 35, and final offer of 40. But fup was not my cup of beverage.
Finally got them to disconnect, and after 4 months, they still haven't collected their router.

Airtel is offering "special" plans for bangalore to deal with the competition. I was on 16 mbps 60 GB and paying 1799 + taxes. Switched for 16 mbps 80 GB for 1349 + taxes.

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

What are the broadband options I have in Mysore? Quite fed up with Airtel and the measly options for Mysore. Paying around 1500/- for 2Mbps 80gb plan.

How is Yashtel? Any reviews about their quality, service etc?

A little update on Hathway.

Their usage tool does not show you your usage according to your cycle. It just shows you how much you've used this month. Tired of asking them to modify their tool, I built my own. I am sharing it here as it may help fellow members.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/hat...d?source=files

Only 82kb. All it needs is your username, cycle start date and high speed usage quota.

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

Can folks from Cochin advise on alternate ISP's? My father uses a Bsnl land line based broad band which goes down for several days every month. Talking to Bsnl only leads to high blood pressure. Bsnl suggests opting for their wi max connection. How good is this and is there an alternate and more reliable isp?

Hey buddy!

I didn't check this thread of late, so apologies for the delayed response.

The best way to disconnect Failtel broadband? Tell them you are leaving the country!

And that you are leaving by the end of the month, so you wont be available on the number after 30th.

That's it! Call the tech support, tell the agent upfront that you need to disconnect, with the reasoning, and to transfer your call to the appropriate department, stat!

That should take care of things. Don't mention anything else like moving to other plans or service providers.

I say this because this worked for me. I was on Failtel broadband since 2009, and my connection was disconnected within 1 week

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

I'm moving to Mumbai end of this week. Need advice on a good portable wi-fi plan. Need it to be reasonably quick and cost-effective. I use only 10-15 GB a month, on average. Will be connecting my Mac, iPad and phone to it.

In Kerala, I think MTS MBlaze should be a good option.
It's fast and relatively cheap. 20 GB of very quick wi-fi/ data for about 1000 rupees. Even after exhausting this limit, it'll still be faster than BSNL.
For BSNL landline, we're charged 800 bucks for 8 GB of much slower "fast" internet and snail's pace slow internet for the rest of the month.

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

God, you guys have it really good. In delhi, except for pockets, your only choice is MTNL, Airtel, Reliance.
Surprisingly , MTNL is the best option of these 3.
Airtel, ridiculous FUP limit.
Reliance, best packages, but absconding with the deposit.
MTNL, trundles along, and everytime there is a fault, they send the lineman.WHY?????

Youre talking about 1mbps post FUP, my plan IS 1mbps throughout, and for that I have to pay 1200 bucks!

Until now Airtel only offered 16Mbps tops.

This is 100Mbps plan, with 125GB limit, FUP after that is 1Mbps. Costs about ₹2200/month.

Another try...
