Hathway - East of NGEF, Bangalore

I have recently shifted to East of NGEF, and there are only 2 providers in my building - BSNL & Hathway. So, I opted for Hathway - what a mess it is turning out to be!

There are good times when the speed is great i.e. close to 40 Mbps but I almost have to call them up every alternate day, since I have the got the connection. Pathetic Customer Care, completely useless tech support.

I really hope I can go back to Airtel, which had very little downtime, if any. Those getting a Hathway, please do not pay upfront for 3 months and do not get your existing connection removed.

I have written to their nodal officer, lets see, if it can get any better.

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

For people in Hyderabad, please help:

1. I'm moving to a location called Nallagandla to one of Aparna gated communities there. Who is providing better service there? I'm using ACT fiber now (formerly Beam). How is Airtel home broadband?

2. I'm thinking of completely moving off from this wired broadband to "Airtel 4G wifi hotspot". Do you think this can replace the home wifi through a router or not yet? My usage is pretty high as I have 2 kids (150 gb per month typically). What is your opinion on this?

Thanks, much appreciate.

I personally prefer AIRTEL because of their reliability and speed. I'm on 16Mbps -(2Mbps constant download from my seedbox) 75GB- 1090per month and post fup speed is 2Mbps unlimited.

If your data consumption is 150GB per month don't even think of going for 4G.

Hope this helps.

That is the best plan from Airtel I think. Unfortunately, plans available in my place are nowhere close to your's from Airtel. The best I have came across is from Reliance, 4 MBPS unlimited no FUP for 999. But Reliance have network issues in my area, I have to rely on poor Tikona plans.

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

BSNL has announced that they are going to upgrade everyone on 512 Kbps plans to 2 Mbps.
I am eagerly awaiting the plans to be updated on their website.

Will consider BSNL again if the plans are priced fairly this time.

BSNL upgrade to 2 MBPS least speed will be in effect from 1st October. Checked the BSNL website today and found nothing about this news. I was looking for another service provider after using BSNL broadband for 5 years for its slow speed.
But, will wait for the month of October to see how that upgrade will actually effect the minimum download speed.

The same plan is available in Chennai BSNL too. I am getting this speed in my Chennai home from this afternoon.

BSNL has said that minimum last mile speed will be 2 Mbps. And TRAI has indicated that definition of broadband will be redefined to 2 Mbps.

Which, in effect means that 2Mbps will be the minimum post FUP speed.

No it does not. Check the plan. Unless trai mandates it its going to be 512 unless there is act in your area

Beam fibre (now ACT) upgraded my 1660 plan. And I am now getting ~74mbps.

Plan 75mbps with FUP 150GB. Post FUP speed 4mbps

I could buy you a drink if you can convince the folks at BSNL to do this.

This kind of minimum would mean they need to get rid of a lot of their lower end plans, since they do not make any sense.

As expected, there is nothing on their website.

I hope Reliance Jio comes in with disruptive pricing. (more likely that BSNL making post FUP speed == 2Mbps.)

Re: How Fast Is Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection?

I am on 8 mbps / 60 GB and 512kbps post FUP plan with Airtel. I am almost at the end of the cycle (1 more day to go) and got the usual warnings that speed will drop once I hit the FUP limit. Strangely, the speed as tested on Speedtest.net right now is 2 mbps! Either I haven't hit the limit yet and they're gypping me on the speed (which has never happened to me before), or the speed post FUP is now 2mbps, not 512kbps. If it is the latter, this is fantastic. Can other Airtel users please monitor and post here? Thanks.
