Anybody having issues with the routers acting up with an ACT connection? First my Asus was down where the WAN port was not detecting the line, which the first time was solved by re-installing the firmware, but that was only for a week. I had a second netgear router which was showing a similar error since last night.

Having learnt from last experience, I directly connected the line to my laptop and found that the line is fine. After a few hours of downloading / browsing, when I connected it back, found the router to be working perfectly.

Just wondering since it seems too much of a coincidence that 2 new routers were having similar errors!!

Unsure if this could be the issue but does ACT register the MAC address of the device that is connecting? Could that be the reason? I am using Youbroadband and it takes the MAC address of the registered router and if one changes the router then the internet goes down. You are permitted to register two macids and can switch via their portal. Maybe the installers registered your laptop macid? If so try macid spoofing in the router of your laptop and you should be ok after that.

I dont think ACT registers MAC, since a new router or a new pc works well. But it was surprising that both routers failed to recognize the line.

And now I face a new problem on the backup netgear router where in the line shows as connected, but in reality it cannot connect to any site. I had to restart the router to fix this!!

Good I opted for Airtel. Working fine since a year now.
Was at Rs. 799 2mbps upto 15gb and 512kbps thereafter.

The torrent bug bit me and on Saturday, upgraded to 8mbps upto 40gb and 1 mbps thereafter. Costed just 200 more than the earlier plan.

I get the speeds as promised.

Very reliable service and almost no downtime. Just faced it once for a couple of hours when they were upgrading their servers or system (do not remember)

For Pune members, I highly recommend Airtel.

I get only 8 mbps from Airtel (FUP 287 GB, Price: 3,099 +tax) and they simply do not offer faster plans in our building complex. Although slow, Airtel has so far been close to 100% reliable (uptime, speeds) with no throttling on torrents.

I also have a spectranet 20mbps plan (FUP 24 GB, Price 749). Although speed is as advertised, they throttle torrent traffic. To get around it, I use random ports in utorrent which helps sometimes but not always.

Airtel broadband in jpnagar area now offers 16mbps speeds with packages starting at 1199 p.m. (with tax should be 1400) with 60gb fup. Till recently I was paying 1699 (with tax it came to 2000) for the same and last month they had raised the fup for it to 150gb
A quick call to their help desk got this changed to 1199 package ..a cool saving of ~500 bucks p.m.

There are reports that the post FUP speeds are not getting reduced immediately.

Seems there are technical issues and hence implementation has been inconsistent.
For example, some are getting post-FUP speeds after 2 GB download (instead of 1 GB).
For some the speeds are reducing after a reboot of the modem.

So, it looks like it is purely driven by luck.

If we don't have a good internet connection, how would we watch all the videos about the car reviews, tech videos etc?

That reminds me that, I am yet to buy a good internet connection. The one I have is a poor Reliance data card with a low limit and the connection, that is not even fast to exhaust that limit! No need to tell about the mobile data connection!

There are now several confirmations that after FUP, the speed is 512 Kbps.

No, there was FUP of 6gb. Madness!
Anyway, now I have dropped MTNL for a local cable net provider, trying him out first with a 2mbps 300GB plan, at 999(all inclusive) for a couple of months.
If he works out, will take a 5mbps 400gb for 1299, which I think is fantastic, going by the sad state of ISPs in delhi

Just noticed an email from ACT informing of the new speed for ACT incredible where the speed has been increased from 60 Mbps and 125 GB FUP to 100 Mbps and 200GB. That for a change is a pleasant surprise.

Need to go home and check the actual speed, on ACT have found it to be the same as the speed mentioned for the plan.

Question: with speeds like this, if you can't connect a PC or laptop directly to ACT but need to use Wi-Fi in-between, what kinds of Wi-Fi speeds do you get? I'd think though ACT is providing such incredible speeds, the Wi-Fi would be throttling it.

Any thoughts on hathway broadband service in mumbai? I have called the customer care atleast 6 times in the last 2 weeks and they have still not called me for a followup on a new connection request. I am currently using airtel, but not happy with their services and the upload speed. My requirement is for a fast broadband internet (atleast 8mbps) with very good upload speed (atleast 4mbps). Any suggestions will be extremely helpful.

Whelp, here's proof that Failtel is history. Internet is seriously fast right now. Buffering? What buffering lol. Waiting to download stuff? Nah, ain't nobody got time for that!
