My config for comp.. good??

Hey

Im getting a new comp and after alllot of research, i shortlisted these parts:
(the items are taken from www.newegg.com as i might the getting them from the site itself or atleast at similar prices).

1)Motherboards:
ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe $190
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131568
OR
ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe $180
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131004

Both these products are pretty much the same except for the fact that one has SLI while the other Crossfire. Tats the only thing iv to decide..any views?? Also, i get a $50 discount if i take the second motherboard cuz of the processor iv chosen.

2)Processor:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice $110
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103533
OR
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice $145
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103531

Iv pretty much decided on the 3800+ but views are welcome..

3)Video card:

Now, the cards iv seen are XFX cards but i dunno how the suport of this company is in india. I know tat the cards are also locally available..but support??

XFX 6800 XTreme $135
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150130
OR
XFX PV-T73G-UDE3 Geforce 7600GT $180
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150141

there's a 6800 card of eVGA too.. but again.. support for the company..
Again, there are some Sapphire ati cards like X800Pro and X850XT.. but same question as above..

4)Hard disk:

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200KS 320GB $110
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136003
OR
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB $110
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140

Only choice to be made here is of the company.. though western digital seems to be the fav on the site.

5)Dvd writer:

Samsung w/ lightscribe w/ 5x DVD-RAM write $35
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151118
OR
NEC writer $35
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827152058

hows NEC in india?? i was also considering Benq or Lite-on.. any views?

6)Memory:

Heres the thing.. As far as i know, say 1GB RAM here is available for about Rs3500.. tats around 7k for 2GB. I was initially planning on going for 1GB but then i saw these offers by "Corsair" (yup)
CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) $180
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145486
or
CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) $165
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145579

tats about Rs 1.5k more but then again its corsair.. worth it??

Rest of the things are standard... Any views and suggestions??

SLI feature on Mobo only comes into picture when u r going to use two video cards which u r not going to use.So u can buy a non-SLI mobo [for abt 100$] and add that money to processor/memory,something like 3800 dual core for abt $330 on newegg.

Are these $ figures equivalent to indian prices. If you are in bangalore why dont you just walk at SP road and find out the prices and brands.
I dont think you get NEC or corsair in bangalore ? , if yes enlighten me .
DVD writer ,just picked up ASUS 1608p3s DVD writer for 2400 rs bill .
About HDD ,i have both seagate(40 g) and WD (80) ..i had a problem with WD ,they just fixed sumthign and returned the same drive ,seems workign now ,touch wood ,but seagate now offers 5 years warranty on HDDs if i am rit ..that tempting

Keep us updated and post a pic after getting it.

Instead of the S939 processor, get the new Socket 940 or AM2 processor.
They have a technology similar to Intel's hyperthreading and they also support DDR2 RAM. You'll get them for about the same price as the S939 processors.

I would recommend whoever is planning for a new computer to wait until MS releases the system recommendations for Windows vista. A super fast computer today may become a basic system for Vista.

This is ok. AM2 is the way forward. And consider non SLI boards with similar other features. SLI is not worth spending that amount of money. And that M2N32 SLI board is hell lotta stuff!
