Exploding laptop

At a conference in Japan, a laptop computer suddenly exploded into flames.

Could have killed somebody was working on it. But luckily it was unattended.

Flames came out of the Dell laptop,

which produced several explosions for over five minutes.

What if it had happened on an aeroplane?
And what if it had happened on somebody's lap?

This is not the only incident. There is a case of exploding laptop in US every week.

99% of the times its the case of faulty batteries and 1% of the times its improper fitment and installation or misuse.

I checked with a Dell sales man and was told that two are seperate incidents, which people mix together. Battery recall program is run by Dell to proactively fix the issue of more failures reported (not bursting) on particular serials.

Regarding the note book explosion, Dell has accepted its their notebook, but investigations are underway to find out the cause whether it was the battery or anyother short circuit that caused the explosion.
