Got Tata-Sky installed in my room and hooked up to the entertainment system. BIG PROBLEM : The pic quality is too blurry....so bad in fact that it leads to an eye sore. Literally.

I switched back to regular tv and things were fine. But the Tata Sky reception is harsh on the eyes. Are there any settings / fine tuning etc. that I am missing out on?

Thanks

All channels or some channels? I have viewed Tata Sky on both 100Hz Flat TV as well as Plasma. Looks Great! May be setup issue.

@GTO, are you getting the same problem with high action DVDs too? If thats the case the problem is your TV settings, contact service center after tweaking sharpness etc.,
Make sure you connect your DVD player to same AV input used by your STB.
This is a known problem with LCDs in case of Analog input when the scene has horizontal movement with vertical fixtures like buildings etc.,
Since Tata SKY STB does not have a digital out, analog connection is your only way of hooking and to verify its not a TV issue but Tata SKY one you have to connect a DVD player by the same connection point.

on the contrary things will look even brighter this year. i heard trai has proposed to do away with the boquet systems & let customer choose the channels at a minimum price per channel
Im using Tatasky...

IF one can choose on a per channel basis then i guess it should not be that bad..

@GTO . what is the response time of your LCD. you might want to read this.
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadget...-lcd-tv-5.html

when did you buy your LCD ? f you can, check the signal strength in your STB.

@tsk1979.... dvds will look absolutely fine, i am sure. All STBs are analogue. we still dont have digital STBs. but i think gto is getting weak signals from the dish too. i

GTO,

Check the signal strength to your STB.

press 'organiser' button on tata sky remote and then select signal strength.

you should see 2 bars, signal strength and signal quality , ideally at more than 80 %.

if not , then either the dish is out of alignment or some problem with dish hardware.. call to their helpline should solve it.

@TSK : Will do as you asked and update.

@Esteem Lover & W12 : Thats the first thing I checked. It was about 75 - 80%.

@esteem_lover, DVDs will look fine as long as they are connected to S-Video or Digital in. Many LCDs have problem handling Analog input. This is esp true for older models.

Yeah, you are right. but even in the normal RCA inputs, the strength of the DVD players' signal is such that it will look great even in the older LCDs if their response time is decent.

Signal strength is one issue. I am not sure but there are some refresh rate issues for Analog connections. The reason is due to double conversion
Digital(DVD) - Analog(TV in) - Digital. This double conversion brings in quantization related errors if the TV companies have compromised on their signal processing hardware.
Older TVs had this problem due to cost issues, and it was a classic case of "Penny wise Pound foolish". Saving a few dollars on a 2000$ system(costs then).

hey, Am little late here givin my comments but i am fully satisfied with the services of DTH. i have a Dish TV connection for quite a long time and am fully satisfied with it.
Some advantages i feel are
1) Hve complete control over my connection unlike the cable provided by cable providers. Main issue
2) Picture and sound clarity cannot be compared with normal cable.
3) Regarding more than one TV in a house i believe they will give packages where you can have more that one STBs for a nominal price, instead of buying independent STBs and Card. I think Tata Sky has that facility but Dish TV hasn't tilll yet.

GTO....ask your dealer to check AVG bias and here I give you one clue,do you see white color with some black patches on screen and here picture use a to tilt slightly from the top when white color appears?Check and if this is the issue then your AVG is set on high which is a malfunction or a faulty piece of t.v,this happens when you get a very strong signal and your (automatic) AVG is faulty and not reducing the bias feed to I.F section via tuner.Check and respond.
*AVG=Automatic VDO Gain.
