Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

I was researching for HD DVR boxes for quite some time and finally purchased Videocon D2H HD DVR for INR4290 with one month platinum pack.

Tata Sky was reject because of very little regional content and lack of Ten Action+.
Reliance not sure about the 5.1 sound
Dish TruHD was false and package was becoming too expensive + no DVR

Have to see how it will work now . I had good experience with normal d2h.

Is it possible for me to do an upgrade from my normal STB to a HD STB?

Is anybody using Sun DTH HD services here?
been using the sun hd for 8 months now.
they score over others in the no of hd channels:discovery,NG,movies now + regional channels in tamil and telugu, which is a total crap.
you will get espn and star cricket if you pay 13000( yes the no of zeros are correct) for 2 months only.
the dish and the set top box are totally different so i dont think you can upgrade with the present set up.
planning to dump this and go tata hd for ipl sake.
to all tata sky hd users-do you get movies now.at present only set top box without recording is available, can i upgrade it later.

Thanks for the headsup drbabuanand

Whoa!!! 13k for espn and star cricket is a loot. Better wait for it to come down. Thinking of calling them and asking for any other deal. Atleast some discount in switching over.

@Drbabuanand - Current Moives Now is not available on TSHD. An upgrade i don't think is possible. I would suggest waiting for the HD+.

No option to upgrade later, you will need to buy it afresh.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

My 10 days old DishTV HD STB remote gone bust. Ironically, customer care said there is no warranty on remote. It is too much. They all selling substandard cheap Chinese materials to Indian Consumer and not giving warranty.
Yesterday, I asked customer care executive to transfer my call to their manager, he was busy then and said he will give me callback. Still, I am waiting for their callback.

God save consumers from these cheap, substandard Chinese products.

That's great news. How do I get to subscribe to these channels? Any idea why there is no official communication from them? I checked their website and I don't see any news on addition of new channels over there too.

Yes. Being able to pause, rewind live TV is great.
and I wont miss champions league matches that go on till 3am!

I did some hunting and bought mine through a dealer directly.
If you wait for Tata Sky to deliver, it will take that long.

In fact the Tata sky helpline was a bit shocked to see how I had got my DVR when the company had not begun selling it!

It is getting more and more expensive with new channels being added

Tata Sky's annual Mega pack seems to be a better bet. Any new channel launched will automatically be added. I hop Airtel launches such a package.
If thats the case then god help Airtel. I spoke to Tata Sky customer care the other day for their DVR. Its quite attractive, 4K upfront that covers the hardware and installation cost plus you get a 1 month of their top of the line pack (380 per month). And if you opt for a yearly subscription then that same pack can be had for 300 INR pm. And this includes all new channels.

Seriously thinking of taking this up. They also offer 5 HD channels @ INR 50 PM which is the cheapest among all the others.

I have one query: I asked the CC agent if I could copy over the recorded programs on the DVR to my other HDD, and negative was the reply. Is there any hack available to do this?
