Am using a Macbook:
2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 Ram (2 512's in Dual Channel Mode)

It's one inch thick, has an amazing screen, looks like a block of white candy and Leopard is the OS.
That's the beauty of OS X, it doesnt need huge hardware unlike Windows which is just bloated. You see, everyone rants about their system specs, but doesnt realise it's just a waste of resources due to the software requiring it.

Apart from professionals who do photo, video editing, etc. like Rudra sir perhaps, the hardware is just a waste.

The best part is that even on the older macbook, Tiger used to run superbly even on 512 Ram. Applications open in a jiffy and any task is done immediately.

Actually, performance is not compared by specs but rather timings - how long does it take to boot, how soon do applications open, etc. As this is what leads to productivity.

You got to read this: One thing PC users can do that Mac users can't...

Also why so much of valueram? Its not worth it. Rather spend more on 2GB of fast memory.

I would buy Corsair TX750 instead of that Tagan 800W. Given a choice i would love to buy a Seventeam again, their 750W would be a monster for sure
Where ? How much ? Darky - help me to procure one right here in pune..

Last december, I bought a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with following specs

* Core 2Duo, T7500 (2.2GHz)
* 3GB DDR2 DRAM @667MHz
* 250GB SATA HDD
* 17" WUXGA+ LCD (1920x1200, 32-bit color)
* NVIDIA GeForce 8600M w/ 256MB RAM
* 2MP Integrated Webcam,
* 11n WLAN card
* 10/100 Mbps LAN
....

The screen is really fabulous. Beats many 20" LCDs due to higher resolution...

Hehe Diablo. Dint realise i would be creating the mac/windows debate

All i was illustrating was the companies pushing hardware that you dont need paradox thats happening today. Software can run as effeciently on a 1MB machine as on a 1GB machine. But companies want profilts, they want people to upgrade their hardware to enjoy NEW FEATURES which would have run fine on thier existing hardware if they wanted too. Thats why we are in an age wherein what you buy today is obsolete within half a year.

Made the mistake of using OS X & Windows as a comparisn. What you dint notice was that only point 1 and 2 were regarding mac benefits (Hardware & Software). The rest was just a healthy discussion about hardware and aoftware and point 5 was an example i used to illustrate the ram aspect. I posted this as this is a hardware thread and i thought it would be relevant.

Anyways, since the mudslinging has begun, lets join in:
You got to see this:
And it perfectly demonstrated my point of bloated software as well
