Arcam makes a decent CD player and amp. mate them to a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze or Silver or JM Lab (Focal) Chorus and you will be happy.

Navin.. would yu be recommending the JM labs Chorus V800 line or the Chorus S line...

The Arcam has soem cool stuff on the DIVA line. The Arcam DIVA CD72 CD player ( US$ 750) and the Arcam DIVA A85( US$ 1500) integrated amp have some great reviews. Any ideas as to there pricing in India?

CD players I like under 40K
Arcam Diva 72/73 (about 40K)
Cambridge Audio 640 (about 30K)
Marantz 5400 (about 21K)
Nad C542 (about 30K)

Amps I like under 40K
Arcam Diva 65 (about 40K)
Cambridge Audio 640 (24K)
Marantz PM7200KI (45K)
Nad C352 (30K)

Speakers I like under 60K
Epos M12.2/22 (40K/70K) stand/floor
JM Lab Chorus 714 (floor) about 60K
Monitor Audio Silver RS1/ Silver S6 30K/60K stand/floor
KEF IQ5/7 (floor) 40-60K

I find B&W to be too bright and I find Wharfdale to be not refined enough.

Rega and Dali also make nice products. I have not heard the Cayin amp.

BTW if you are considering going "audiophile" why not fullrange (Lowther, Fostex, Vervox, Jordan, etc...) speakers and tube amps (EL34, KT88, or even a 300B SE!). I just warn you that going down this road is a very expensive (time and money) proposition!

I think you know my opinion on Bose. :-)

Navin..would love to go the full audiophile way..but unfortunately the "expensive" part coemes in the way of passion...Why does money have to coem in the way of passion... The WILL IS THERE BUT NOT THE WAY..:( .so...will have to stay satisfied with entry level goodies at the moment.... Will go for upgrades as soon as my fiscal balance improves...

The only high end product I own now are a pair of Sennheisser HD 280 PRO head phones which I use with my I-Pod...

Same here SK. BIG dreams. Thin wallet. I use Shure E3Cs with my Ipod. Heaven! Most of the money goes into my car and my other gadgets.

The 280 Pro are nice. I too have champange tastes and a beer budget that is why I DIY.

I dont drive and am chauffered so I use headphone with my ipod too. I keep a pair in each car (Beyer DT880 in my car, Senheisser HD555 in my wife's car and a oldpair of Sennheisser 560 reference in my old/backup car).

My CD player is a Marantz CD63 KI that has been modified and will continue to be I am hoping to squeeze a small ECC88 based preamp into it.
My amps are home made EL34 that will be upgraded to KT88s once ready and debugged EL34 PP UL drive the woofers and an EL34 PP triode drives the tweeters.
my speakers are ScanSpeak 18W8546 (push-push) mated to a modified 9900 tweeter.

My son's system is under works.
CD wil be a modified CD63KI clone (home made CD player)
Amp will be a ECC81/EL84 based 8W PP pentode
Speakers will most likely be based on the Fostex 167 or Fostex 127 push-push or mabe even the Jordan JX92

MY HT system's speakers will be based on the Vervox 3 and either a Vervox 5 mated to a EB Super Slim or a Jordan JX92 mated to a Aurum Cnatus G2si.

try the bose or definitive technology bookshelf speakers. since u hear unplugged and wish to have punchy feel, add a subwoofer too which will lesser strain the speaker on low frequencies. definitely this will sound great. check out the definitive technology speakers.
