Why so many password managers? Well, I don't trust them to be around for too long and given I have several hundred logins, passwords and secure notes I absolutely need a password manager utility. No point putting all your eggs in one basket.

How safe are password managers from hacking? Can one entrust these with internet banking passwords?

Do you recommend paid ones or free ones like Dashlane?

No server/PC connected to the Internet is hack proof. Determined hackers will get through to it but what is more important is the type and strength of the encryption used to encrypt your data. All use end to end encryption 256 bit based AES algorithm (used by the US Govt.) salting, and some with PBKDEF2 among a variety of encryption techniques which make deciphering your data almost impossible. I won't go into each of these techniques as they are complex and the info is readily available on the internet should you be inclined to read about technologies and the advanced mathematics that go into these encryption techniques. Another area of weakness is the browser add-on. So make sure you update the PM app regularly.

Data is encrypted whether for free and paid service accounts. They distinguish themselves on the features. I've tried heck of a lot of password managers (I've added Keeper and Password Boss to the list since my last post) and my favourites are Lastpass, Dashlane and Roboform in that order.

If I have to recommend just one right off the cuff it has to be Lastpass. Their free account is nearly as good as the paid service.

What speeds are you getting on Surfshark/ US server? I get such slow speeds that it is essentially useless.

I use different VPNs for different purposes including P2P and streaming audio and/or video. And none are free VPNs. Hey I also forgot to add Gaana and JioSaavn to my list.

Thanks Sutripta, I was unwell mid Feb through end March and have spent a long time convalescing. I am back to normal now and signed on to TBHP after 2.5 months.

Surfshark is one of the best VPNs (the cost/performance ratio is superb) I have used. So for better speeds I would suggest you connect to a local India node. Unless of course you use it to stream Netflix US or some other geo restricted content in which case you could try Surfshark's other US based nodes for better speeds. Many a times nodes get loaded and slow down. You may want to do a speed test at speedtest dot net or at fast dot com (Netflix's speed test)

Just subscribed to Surfshark today. Connected to a USA node. And then tried accessing US content in Prime Video app. But it is showing me a message that I am using VPN and not allowing to play video. Then tried seeing it in Chrome browser by opening Prime video website. But even there getting the same issue.

Is there a way out?
