ya 3.5 inch is cheaper than the 2.5 inch but the capacity of 3.5 is quite large when compared to the 2.5 inch one....and the 3.5 inch is also heavier than the 2.5 inch one.

as far as i know Seagate's data transfer is 61mb per second when compared to hitachi's 56mb per second but hitachi runs cooler than seagate.

Just make sure that you buy Sata2 hdd and Sata2 Usb casing.

Get a Transcend Usb2 Storejet 3.5. It supports upto 750gb hdd and will cost you approx 1700.

as i understand from above discussion, the 3.5 will need extra power supply, isnt it? i need one without power adaptor

will the 2.5" ones (both HDD and Transcend casing) will have sata2 ? i have Dell Inspiron 5100

l_b_m, could you post pics of your HDD & casing, please? Is it like a slot-in & plug-in job, setting up the HDD in the casing? I mean, I'd like to set this up, but without too much of uh... trouble

i got the hard disk for 6500 and the transcend casing for 700 so the total was 7200.by the way this is the 2.5 inch HD which DOES NOT need the external power supply.
