re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

I got it from a friend in Samsung. 6 series felt too expensive!

Could anybody let me know if i need to install a stabilizer for it?

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Tweaking with some settings, now I am able to get the best picture clarity. HD channels are amazing and life like, don't want to watch SDs after looking into it.

Some pictures.

After reducing the sharpness to 0 it was good but I am losing the razor sharp pictures.

The response time is 6.5 ms, with 50Hz refresh rate, is this good enough to avoid ghosting. Any settings to be done ?

My friend went and checked a Panasonic TH-P42V20D at night. That and other plasmas were showing a yellowish tinge and blue looked sea green.:S
The LCD/LED TVs next to it looked ok with whatever stuff the showrooms dish out.
Surely disconcerting for someone looking at a Plasma on being recommended one but with a bent towards getting an LCD/LED TV.
Any ideas why?

So looking at LCDs now- maybe Sony 40"/46"- CX520 or EX520. Or a Samsung LA40C530/C550/D550/C650 or something.

1. Budget: 55-60K. slightly more possible if i get a good TV.
2. Viewing distance: ~10-12 feet.
3. Sources/inputs such as HD DTH/consoles/stand-alone media players etc. Primarily DTH/HD DTH/media player (/HTPC not sure).
4. Preference for plasma TV/LCD TV/LED-LCD TV : Plasma or LCD/LED.
5. Preference for brands : Panasonic Plasma or Sony/Samsung? No idea of Panasonic LCDs.
6. Willing to purchase it from the grey market? NO.
7. Ambient lighting conditions of the room : Window/Balcony bang opposite the TV, Some decorative lamps?
8. Any other feature you are looking for such as 3D support on the HDTV, DLNA capabilities etc. : No 3D. DLNA? what is that? do i need it?

Now very confused, with all the options he has seen and not sure which is good.
Here are the prices that i am getting
Sony KDL-40CX520 > 57K approx
Samsung LA40D550 > 45K approx (or was it 47K? :S)
Samsung LA40C550 > 45K approx
Samsung LA40C650 > 60K+ ?

Are the prices ok?

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

The reason why Plasmas look slightly pale in comparison to LCD/LEDs is because they have a more natural picture vis a vis an LCD/LED whose contrast is bumped up artificially. Besides store lights dim the Plasma beyond a point where they look ordinary.

Ask your friend to go to someone's place and isolatedly check out one plasma, and then to someone's house and isolatedly check out that person's LCD/LED with the same bluray (or DVD)

If viewed over a period of a few hours, one knows how real and natural a plasma looks.

PS: Volunteering my plasma for a look bikey. You have come to my place before, you can drop by again. I have plasma in one room and LCDs in the other

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

I agree with Frank, I have been using Plasma's and infact have just recently bought myself the new Samsung 64D8000 series.
I vouch by the natural colours and the speed on the Plasma screens. I too feel the led/lcd screen look artificial. But, my children like the artificial colour enhancement on the led!
So its one's personal liking.
I own a Nec 42", a Panny 46" and now a Samsung 64" all plasma's and we have a samsung led 42" 5000 series in the childrens room.
The best of the lot in picture quality is the Nec and offcourse the new 64" is just too good and Real!! I do not like the picture quality on the Samsung led, it seems like I am watching everything like an Animated version.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

I want to buy a LCD/Plasma/LED for my room. The detailed requirements are as follows:

Budget: Around 40K. The lesser the better.

Viewing distance: 12 feet

Sources/inputs required: HDMI, DTH, HD-DTH, Xbox, PS3

Usage: Mostly movies and TV. Will connect it to my laptop using HDMI to watch movies too. A bit of gaming too.

Preference for Plasma/LCD/LED: Anything that is suitable.

Willing to purchase it from the grey market: Strictly No.

Ambient lighting conditions of the room: Normal room with 1 window which will be on the side. I will be using a curtain or a blind on it. Lighting is also pretty normal.

3D Support required? : Not at all.

I have no idea about what to buy but I need to make an immediate purchase. I would prefer something with good after sales support too.

Please help. Thanks.

I think a 40" would be perfect for your viewing distance, considering the budget. Check out the Samsung PS43D450 43" Plasma. I'm sure you'll get it for just a shade above 40k. It is not full HD.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I want a Full HD TV. I might just extend the budget by a bit but definitely need a FULL HD model.

From 12 feet you really wont make out a difference. So why would you want it? Or you can get a 37" Samsung LCD for about 47k.

If I attach a gaming console to the TV, I will be sitting really close. Can you give me the Samsung 37 inchers model number?

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

I recently started my market study for a LCD/LED tv.
One thing which i understood is the motion flow/refresh rate of the tv should be more(Min 100Hz) if you are planning to use it for gaming and watching Full HD content.
My budget was in the range of 30-35K and i checked in Modern world(Domlur) first.
The SE showed me the difference b/w a 50Hz and a 100Hz full HD TVs clearly.
They showed me Panasonic LED 32D25 which is Full HD and having 100Hz refresh rate.
The price quoted at that time was 42K and when i checked one week later it was reduced to 40K.
Experts what is your suggestion?
I prefer Panasonic or Samsung.

Though am no expert here is my experience; we purchased Samsung LCD LA40C650 (Full HD, 100Hz) while watching a movie with 100hz turned the picture looks unnatural(maybe due to the additional frames inserted between the original frames) as traditionally movies are shot at 24fps I prefer watching without 100hz turned on, am not sure how this feature is helpful for watching movies unless one is into gaming?

Any idea how are the following models:

Panasonic LCD 42U20 - Rs. 44,000/-
http://www.panasonic.co.in/wps/porta.../VIERATHL42U20

Samsung LA37C530 - Rs 44,500/-
Samsung LA40D550 - Rs 44,500/-

The Samsung LA40C550 and LA37D550K1R were not available at the store where I went today. I might be able to bargain a bit more for the prices I feel.

And strangely the guy told me that 37" and 40" prices would be same because 37" is a rare model.
