I own a panasonic 42X30D

1.I've tried dlna on wired connection. But, it should work over wireless as well ( even though, not as reliable as wired )

2. Never tried it, since I'm on android :-)

But having used similar utilities for my asus media box, I'm not a great fan of such utilities. The tv remote is the best. :-)

1. I also have connected through LAN (Wired Ethernet) . So what DLNA Server software did you use on the PC ? Windows Media Player in Win7 or
2. The Viera Remote app is available for the Android too.

Hi,
I bought the Plasma for 57k, it included only one 3D glass. Generally as per the company website, they give only one 3D glass with the tv set.

No wifi dongle was offered with it.

I think the price of a 3D glass is appx 8-10k MRP, so i think you have a good deal there. Try to include the wifi dongle within 65k, and you should be good to go.

@racingmachine - Thanks for the information !
The best offer for TH-P42ST30D I have so far is 60K with two 3D glasses included, will be buying it later this week.

Hi all,

Okay here is an update for my new Panasonic Plasma P42U30D
I installed the Twonky Media Server for DLNA on my Windows XP Machine having all my movies.

The P42U30D is connected through cabled LAN to my home Network. The DLNA Media Server was detected and I was able to play all files except the .MKV files. the MKV files were not listed at all in the Director while browsing the Media Player directory for the DLNA Server.

Would this be a limitation of the TV or the DLNA Server running on the PC ? Anybody has any idea ?

It's a limitation with the tv is what I believe. Media box is the best solution for playing all kinds of format in a hassle free manner. :-)

Thanks Amalji for your reply.
What is a Media Box, you mean an external Media Player ?
That would be too much of a hassle with an extra box, and extra cables, and an extra adapter. Ideally the DLNA built in the TV should be able to play all formats. I think Samsung LEDs do. Panasonic looses out in this i guess.

You can try PS3 Media server. I have been able to play mkv content using it on a older VT20 model.

Hi alto99,

Thanks for your reply. By PS3 Media Server you mean there is a PS3 Media Server for the Windows XP Mahchine ? Or do you mean that I should run a Media server on the Sony Play Station 3 ?

PS3 Media server software installed on windows machine. I have it installed on windows 7.

Bought a LG 32" LCD TV on Sunday. Its HD Ready and not full HD (price diff was ~2k). Wanted to go for Panasonic Viera but A.S.S was a concern. Also I was told that the panel used was LG's. So went ahead with LG.
Totally satisfied with the TV so far

Plays movies in almost all formats(including mkv)
Plays music and photos from USB directly
IPS Panel seems to be good (in terms of PQ)
Can read HDD's upto 1 TB :D

Price Quoted: 28k
Exchange of Old TV: 2k
Discount: 2k
Final Price: 24k

Freebies: 1 Universal remote(apparently worth 1.5k)

Congratulations on the purchase !

Can you mention the model number ?

Are you sure it has an IPS panel ? I don't think LG provides IPS panels in 32 inch LCD models.

Hi Akhil,

What is the model number and where did you buy it from? I'm looking to buy one for my bedroom and what caught my eye was your comment about "Can read HDD's upto 1 TB". So please share more info.

Thanks,

Thank you.
The model number is 32LK332. I m pretty sure it has an IPS panel as it was mentioned by the salesperson & also mentioned on carton box.

Yes, it reads HDD's upto 1TB as told by the salesperson. I tried with my 500GB portable HDD and it played the movie seamlessly. Infact, I could use controls like rewind, forward, subs on/off like a breeze from TV remote while playing movies.

If I had pushed the showroom guys, I could have got another 500-1000 off but I was happy with the deal. So went ahead and bought it.

PS: PM'd you silverOne

Not to take away from your purchase but Panasonic has a very well organized service network.

Further Panasonic has it's own panel manufacturing facilities both for Plasma and LCD. IIRC it is a JV with Hitachi & Toshiba.

Hi Alto,

I first tried Windows 7 - Windows Media Player DLNA Server. I was able to make the video work for the MKV files but there was no Audio. I researched and found that Panasonic DLNA does not support DTS Audio.

Thanks for your lead. I installed PS3 Media Server and I can play MKV files as it transcodes them to MP2 for streaming, and then they are compatible with the Panasonic DLNA client. But there is a quality loss in this as the Full HD 1920p MKV files are scaled down.

oh, is it? I was told that LG supplies Panasonic with Display Panels. I have been a fan of Viera series and was using that for 3-4 months when I was abroad.

Back home, LG/Samsung lights up our eyes, I guess stupid: and I have a soft-spot for the koreans (esp. LG & Hyundai)
