re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Why not post it right here. Like Guite & myself there will be scores of others who would be interested in such information.

The TV costed AED 3,300. Duty was negotiated the Indian way! Can assure you it wasn't a significant amount.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Compared a Plasma 42UT50 next to a 42ST50 (with a neo plasma panel) today and while the contrast in ST is clearly better, the UT is a very good set as well. For some reason (margins?) all the dealers were intent on pushing the HD ready XT over the full HD UT. UT is priced below 50K (ST is 64K) and i think it's a very good deal, but no glasses though. I had gone to the dealers with hopes of picking up a neo panel TV for around 50K (had read instances of people picking up 42GT30s at <50K with glasses last year end on hifivision) and was disappointed. Those days are gone i suppose, the rupee has taken it's toll. :(

There were no 2011 models at any of the 7 dealerships i visited over the weekend. Let me know if someone finds a stash of 42GT30s or 42ST30s somewhere.

Most of the dealerships still seem to be waiting for the stocks, so i'm going to watch the prices of UT for a few more days and decide.

What was the price of 42UT50? Because here XT 50 is selling for 48K.

64K for 42ST50 seems good price because on saturday I enquired 50ST50 for 96K. The difference seems steep. Where did you check the prices?

I was quoted 47K for 42UT50 and 49K for XT50 at Devi Internation, Bangalore. Pai International, BSK quoted 45K for an XT50 but he didn't have any UT50 units with him. So i'm going to wait for them to get those units (apparently they'll get them next week) before deciding. I went to the brand store in BSK first, but forgot to check UT50 there.

Devi International, Bangalore. I'm pretty sure it was 42ST50 as i asked him for the cheapest unit with Neo Plasma. GT and VT cost more.

UT50 can not be cheaper than XT50 as the former is full HD and the latter is HD ready. Probably there was some miscommunication.

No idea about the 42GT30, but 42ST30 is available at the Rajajinagar Brand Shop (in front of VVS School, 1st Block). @ravikn just bought one for 60.5K (2 goggles) on Saturday. I checked again last evening, and he has more.

Surprise of surprises, there are still plenty of 50ST30s that have re-emerged from somewhere - forgot ask the price though. Pana warehouses must have shuffled stocks at region/country level. And *that* is the reason Panasonic is not releasing the price of 50ST50!!!

There was a 42GT50 being readied for the wall - great PQ, better than ST30. With all the confusion regarding prices of 2012 models (MRP expected to be *at least* 20% higher than 2011 models - weaker INR), it looks like unless the 2011 models move out, they will not bring out 2012 stock. And the 2011 models aren't dipping at all - even the dealers are confused. God bless Panasonic!!!

Are you sure it was not for 50ST30??? 50ST50 is MRP 1.2L!!!

Correct. UT50 hardware is just ever so slightly lesser spec than ST50, and the software is almost the same (no Wifi or BT, though). If one understands the differences, it makes more sense to buy UT50 than XT50. If one doesn't, XT50 is good enough to dazzle one's eyes when compared to other brands - just use a good HD test clip.

Yes. I am sure it was 50ST50 coz I waited for the model to come in.

I am waited for this model specially for the smart tv functions.

I am still not sure if it is worth it over the Samsung 51E550 for the 25K odd rs difference.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

This is not possible as the UT is a Full HD and the XT is HD ready. UT cannot be priced lowered than the XT. Either the dealer or you have made a mistake in quoting / reporting respectively unless the XT in question is a 50" panel versus the 42" for UT or the model in question is the 42UT30 & not the 42UT50.

So these pana guys are not releasing 50ST50 unless the ST30 series are all sold out ? . Great ! , they should release ST50 along and reduced the ST30 series prices .

Even I might go for 50ST50 , if any body gets a good deal ,let us know .

Are you sure that the price and the models mentioned in your post are correct. I say this because -

1) ST50 series does not have 42". The ST50 series starts from 50" leading to 55", 60" and 65".

2) The price of 50ST50 as quoted by you 96K is pretty much similar to what is being "quoted" for 50ST30 (though there is fair amount of flexibility as I have indicated in an earlier post).

I'm on the verge of making this purchase and would be grateful if you could verify all mentioned above. Thanks...

42ST50 price was quoted by another member before my post. Since I've not checked for 42inches, I am not aware of its availability.

My second visit to Panasonic Brand Showroom has met with a confused Salesman and Manager. A pathetic image for the company to be honest. They are confused about the ST30 and ST50 models themselves. I will post a clear response once I get it from the company. I've written to Panasonic and hope to receive a response soon.

We can opt for a nationwide Bulkdeal if there are enough ST50 plasma buyers on the forum. I would say a minimum of 10 units can be a good start.
