Ohhh... and I thought HD Ready or Full HD does not make much difference for screens upto 32" or so. Now, if true, this is a new issue to consider...

It won't make a big diff, but the full HD would be better slightly. hd ready would lack some crispness of the picture, that the full one would deliver.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

^^^And I suppose the lower pixel density would be more apparent when watching up close than from bit far right? The TV would be watched from 3-4 feet close to about 8 feet away. So the picture quality up close is also important. So Full HD would be better, right? But the concern is the price - getting HD Ready models (considering Toshiba. Seems they don't have full HD in this range, Samsung has, but its significantly costlier) for significantly lesser. So the question is, would the significantly higher price be commensurate with increase in picture quality, esp., at 3-4 feet viewing distance? I'm talking about a 32" screen, which I feel should suffice for watching at 8-10 feet, max.

If this group buy is one, may be i am interested in the 50ST50. I am torn between this and Samsung E550. 25K savings over the Panasonic and has every other feature the Panasonic has.

Our DVDs are mostly original. My wife has a library of DVDs (she intends to collect Blu Ray going forwards).

In addition I have some AVCHD files from our old video camera (5-6 year old Canon HF10).

Sill i assume 75% of our video would be via the Set-top box (Tata Sky HD).

Thanks ordered the VT30 after a friend at Panasonic (Chennai) assured me that the VT50 would be out only next year.

Great, now we have the inside track on Panny

kpzen, I hope you did not mean it the other way around, what with the 50 series having superseded the 30.

Regarding the price for the 50ST30, I did post regarding buying one last month for 76K from a local Panasonic brand shop here in Dilli, most other guys were quoting 84K.

90k is a good price.
Anything less than that is a bonus.

IMO Tata sky HD is in 1080I. I opted for Big TV HD as it was 1080P. Just checkout in case you have to upgrade/buy Tatasky.

With large screen all DVD and regular channel will feel grainy.

You will need a blue-ray to actually use the full potential of VT30. So it better you order a blue-ray too in advance.

PS3 = Panny ST/VT series.

Settling between ST and VT is more of a features vs. performance comparo. YOu need to decide for yourself.

Youd need to have numbers in the hunderds and that too of just 2 or 3 models to talk direct with Panasonic. Panasonic most likely will not about to upset it's distributor or dealers for 5 or 10 TVs.

I used to know this friend well. His first wife was a very good friend of my wife. After his first wife passed away about 6 years ago we drifted apart so now we dont keep in touch. It was with great trepidation I called him.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

I use a SAMSUNG HD LCD TV and a SONY DVD player which is connected to the TV via an HDMI cable. Like you, I also use a Tata Sky HD +, also connected to the TV via an HDMI cable.

I have a large collection of regular DVD's - all original and mostly imported/ bought abroad. These DVDs perform brilliantly on my HDTV through the standard DVD player with the HDMI cable. Watching HD TV channels on the TATA SKY HD+ is also a delicious experience. I only wish that Tata Sky would get more HD Channels (specifically Sports and English Channels) soon.

I have an old CRT Sony TV in another room along with the older non HD Tata Sky and an older Sony DVD player. Im thinking of upgrading that whole system to a 32 inch HD LED or LCD TV along with a new Tata Sky HD Box and a DVD player which can connect to the TV using an HDMI cable.

At this point I prefer not to invest big bucks in HD LED and SMART TV and 3D and all that jazz. I believe the upgraded configuration as described above, will more than fulfill our specific requirements.

Hi navin, I was actually referring to 'kpzen' as the insider...

You will agree though that with friends it is always "the more the merrier".

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

I had purchased a 32" LG LED 7500 last year after reading the reviews here. And I am very happy with it. I use a Tata Sky HD connection and enjoying watching TV.

My brother is returning from Saudi and is planning to get a bigger size TV, around 42". Could you suggest me few models? My benchmark is my current TV, I would expect the performance and features to equal if not exceed it.
