Today's newspapers say that govt is considering reducing excise duties on PC's and electronics from 16% to 8%; that should bring down the cost of plasma/lcd tv's as well.....

I saw Videocon 42" plasma selling for 59990. Looks like a great deal. Picture quality mated to Tata Sky transmission was good. Looks like in a year we will see flat displays all over.

Have to disagree here..

The global market share of Samsung in LCDs is 14.5%( no.2 ) compared to 15.5% ( no. 1) of Sony ( The diference was 4.5% a year ago)

Infact sony and samsung use the same dispalys , made at the same factory in Korea.

Even in mature markets like Europe and US , Samsung is making rapid strides. I am not sure whether you can write off the quality of their products so easily.

Was expecting SED TV from Toshiba and Canon. It was supposed to be a big leap in display technology. Unfortunately, there are some patent litigations and might not make it to the market early enough.

I have used quite a few samsung products and i dont think they really maintain high quality standards... I have used a DVD, Microwave, Mobile phone but i dont think they can set quality benchmarks like sony does.

Same goes for the V series. In india we have the KLV-V32A10. whereas the latest revision of this is the KLV-32V200A.

There is a huge improvement in the newer Bravias. the ones in India are like the first gen Bravias.

Samsung products are more up to date.
The new V series is now available thru futureBazaar.com. Atlest the 32 inch i am looking for...

KLV-32V200A retails at 87290... and thats a strange price as it is much less than the older vA10 the sony website lists.

I also saw a listing for V series model in ebay. The retailer told that it was imported.

Actually the new S series is listed on sony india site. But guess the stores only have old ones...

The strange thing about futurebazaar is, both new models are priced lower than the old models!!!

I also have used / continue to use Samsung microwave, Fridge, split Acs , monitor, phones, Tvs etc..I am happy with their products & service.

besides, no company can become worlds no, 2 , if it does not address quality issues IMO,,

the moot point was whether samsung is a market leader only in India.. the answer is NO..it is growing everywhere..even in mature markets..

Ofcourse..if you are happy with your sony and its price , it is your call. I for one wont pay a premium for perceived non existent values and for the name plate..but thats me..

Guys, let me tell you something from experience. be it DTH, STB, Cable or Pure Terrestrial, the LCD & Plasms TVs just cant show them as good as the good old CRTs do. Playing DVDs or HDTV inputs is a totally different ball game on these TVs, but if you are going to be a TV viewer, even the DTH solution sometimes is a little hazy. i do speak from my experience. i have been having DTH for one year now & i recently upgraded my tv to a 100 HZ tv which is very similar to the LCDs, but i find that the channels which come in 100% strength are terrific to watch, but not the ones that are even 75%. cheers...more a little later as i am held up right now.
