For a 15 feet length room, 40" would be more than sufficient. Suggest you choose between the W-Series from Sony or Samsung 6 Series. Check both LCD's side by side with same programme ( Satellite or even better cable) playing ( you can test with DVD's as well but both will look more or less similar).

VIERA Plasma TV | Digital AV | Panasonic India
i would suggest you check what c10d really costs from another store and then see if its worth taking a showroom piece - I would never buy a showroom piece, especially a plasma tv which may have been abused by keeping on for hours every day!
I did read them & could not comprehendo most of the things, as a result I have mentioned it as a concern, I did then verify & browed to understand that, & I see that (Pixel Burn) has now been sorted out.

I have again now received the best price as INR 43,800 with VAT, 3 yrs warranty (Including Pannel), installation & some scratch & win offers if i book it by this month end. This offer is for the C10D, which the Panasonic guys say this is the 2009 Model & PV80D was a 2008 model & has been discontinued or they are just clearing stocks. The TV what they are offering would be a packed box & not the displayed one, I hope I have got a good deal

I have decided to go for Sony 40W550A for the Living Room.

When it comes to picture quality plasma is better (also based on reviews in previous pages).
Only negative of plasma is high power consumption. Typically 42'' plasma consumes around 400W while a similar dimension LCD consumes 250W.

42'' looks ok. Of these, the best all rounder (for watching movies, sports & playing games) is G10 and its Full HD (S10 might not have PC input).

Edit: Didn't see your response. Also, since your budget is reaches 1 lakh, any comparsion done with LED TVs?

I was aware plasma consumes more but didnt realize the difference is so much. Above is based on how much time for that consumption?

i own the panny pv80d and my power consumption is definitely lower than lcd - this is compared to my earlier lcd which i still have in the house. both 42" and similar usage patterns, the plasma consumes less. The new plasmas can vary the power consumption based on contrast of image being displayed - this results in an average monthly bill of lower than lcds.

i would still recommend the g10 plasma over the leds. current edge lit LEDs are nowhere close to plasmas - please review my link on previous page.

Pana G10 42'': Rated Power Consumption = 490 W. But On Mode Average Power Consumption = 173 W
Sony 46W: Power Consumption (in Operation) max. : 240 W

....
Good to hear that. I was planning PV80 but decided to wait for Full HD. Now that G10 is here, I am tempted.

Guys one thing I've noticed when comparing the PQ of Panasonic G10 with PV80 with normal SD DVD (and I know I'm about to commit sacrilege), somehow I found PV80 video to be much better (read sharper) compared to G10. Now PV80 is 720p while G10 is HD ready.

Can anyone explain why this would be so? In fact I went to check out and possibly buy G10, but this comparison has me thoroughly confused. Is it true that unless you get yourself HD-DVDs and HD-satellite, normal SD content will play worse on full-HD plasmas than on half-HD ones?

I haven't compared the two. But the reason could be this - the SD DVD would probably have around 480 or 576 lines. The PV80 can take 768 (720p). So the image needs to be upscaled from 480/576 to 768 to fit the screen.

In case of the Full HD G10, the same 480/576 line source would need to be upscaled to 1080 lines (1080p).

Ultimately the scaling engine is kind-of 'filling-in-the-blank pixels' of the higher resolution screen. The higher the resolution, the more pixels the scaling engine needs to fill up by 'extrapolating' from the low res source image. The result 'might' be lower effectiveness in doing so.

For TV feed the situation is even worse. IIRC, DTH TV feeds have 200-300 lines of resolution.

I have a PV8. SD DVD's look lovely. TataSky is pretty acceptable too. Quite watchable.

i agree with Shuvc's explaination unless there exists a better one.
1080p is over-rated stuff anyway and I am sure there is 1440p and 1920p coming!!
For a 42" display, 720p is quite good and if it gives you good SD (which is what we see 50% of the time atleast) then 720p is the way to go!
I am not sure then whats the latest gen 720p panny plasma

So both are same HD ReaDY == 720 p. Full HD == 1080P.

This just implies that scaling algorithm on G10 is shittier then PV80 usually it depends on the chipeset being deployed and OEM supplier for same so though product line may be higher but a perticular function may be altered because the processor is changed.

Samsung and Sony invested in developing their own chip sets for display's and are reaping benefits and have consistency in features that is you can expect the higher model to be always slightly beteer because the chipset family is same.

As I already explained a lot of PQ depends on the features implemented in software and DSPs such as codecs , scaling , balancing etc.

That was probably a typo from @greenh0rn. G10 is 1080p Full HD.
Currently the X10 and S10 are HD ready 720p models.
