I picked up a reconnect FHD 42" Harman speaker led tv from reliance digital. I must say I am quite impressed with it. Paid 46k and it has 2x hdmi and 2 x USB. This was particularly a holiday lounge tv and so I was taking a risk for reconnect brand. The contrast is ok+ but cannot say great. USB is a little slow acquisition but very good otherwise. Sound clarity scores well due to Harman Kardon speakers.

The 42W670 is available at Gaffar for 46K.
X-Reality Pro engine. No 3D. SD content is reproduced better than on the Samsung 6220.
Thanks for the option Anup, somehow I have a feeling that Samsung makes the best LED panels, like Panasonic makes the best Plasmas.
Samsung F6400 has got great features like Wifi, Complete Internet TV and App Store.

Now that you have recommended a Sony Model I will surely consider it.

Thanks

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

I am looking to buy a 40/42 inch LED Full HD television. I am not very specific about the brand. Which would be best one to buy? Having WiFi Connectivity would be good but not mandatory. Also I am not fan of 3D TV's.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Was looking for a 32" LED for my home in Punjab and ended up buying Samsung 32F4100. It does not have Smart TV features but as a basic LED TV, it does its job well. Bought it from a relative who is a dealer for Samsung and paid him 30300 bucks. The same piece was available at wholesale showrooms for 31500.

You can look at the Samsung F5500 series 40" TV. This is from the 2013 series, and has all available features incuding built in WiFi, Smart TV, Browser, App Store etc. It does not have 3D.

But in that case shouldn't we pay the customs duty which will take the total amount close to the Indian price?

The cost including customs duty will be still less enough to make it a bargain. However, warranty will be an issue.

After the Thai floods, TVs' were available at further discounts. A friend brough back a Sony 46" for about 34K all inclusive. It was sold locally at 70K+.

White light emitted by LEDs was typically rich in blue light. This mattered because ipRGCs were most sensitive to blue and blue-green light. So night-time exposure to LEDs was typically more disruptive to circadian rhythms and sleep than the old incandescent light bulbs
Can experts shed light on the comments listed in the page please

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

I would discard the hypothesis in that article as journalistic pseudoscientific claims since:

1. White light is rich in red and green colors too

2. If the writer meant that LED lights (they aren't talking of LED TV light, are they?) have a bluish tinge as compared to incandescent lamps, so do the common tubelights and CFLs. Most of us have spent our lives living with tubelights at night, and get a pretty decent interruption-free sleep (provided one doesn't sleep with the tubelight on )

Do they include LCD/LED TV in that 25K allowance? My expectation was that as well, when I brought in a 37" LCD TV from Singapore 3-4 years back. I had the original bill with me, but the Cochin airport officials said they have fixed a price for each screen size, and the duty will be based on that. I paid around Rs. 1800 then (with receipt), but it was still more than 50% cheaper than the cost of an LCD in India at that time.

As far as the law goes you can bring in any dutiable item.

This allowance has been hiked to 35 or 45 k in this budget. However, "valuation" of items is up to the customs officer. Mostly they have a fixed rate depending on size of TV.

Is Samsung PS51E550 Plasma a better buy at 60k with two free 3D glasses ? Anyone using PS51E550 please let me know if there are any known issues with it.
