No it doesnt. So I have it connected to Blu Ray only, for now. Untill we change the TV at least. But its annoying.

Sony now lets you play all popular formats. Maybe a few extremely rare formats wont play. But, I haven't tried attaching an external HDD to the TV. You can check the supported formats in the technical specifications of the unit.
For a 15 feet viewing distance, a 46/47 inch led tv would be perfect. Also if you can, buy a non 3D led tv. Most people (including me) never use the 3D feature. Moreover 3D results in a lot of strain on eyes.

The best panels in the market are all 3D enabled.
Whether you watch 3D or not the 3D panels will always provide superior picture quality.
3D and 'smart TV features' are offered as default on the higher range sets, so there really is no choice but to buy such a TV. There is no '2D only and non-smart' TV that offers excellent picture quality.

Samsung has a 43 in plasma with 3d.
It converts regular TV to 3d, besides playing 3d contents. I picked it up a few months ago for 40 odd.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Hi Friends,

I am looking to buy a LED TV in either 42" or 46" within the budget of ~50-60K. My priorities are best in class image and sound quality and WiFi support to share content from phone/laptop etc.. 3D is not a priority. I would be using it with the existing TataSky HD+ and with USB drives so it needs to play most movie file formats. There will no external speakers in use in this setup, no Blu-ray players etc.
I currently have a Philips 46" LCD which is giving me a lot of headache.
What models would you recommend? And where best to buy them from? I stay in South Bangalore, and did visit the closest Croma, but amongst the LED TVs on display I couldn't spot any visible difference. Ofcourse this could be because they mostly play some looped videos showing off the best image quality.
P.S.: If the set is worth it then I can stretch the budget a lil.

Once you shortlist the models, you can find settings from sites such as this http://reviews.plasmatvbuyingguide.c...e2.html#picset and set them yourself at the dealership in order to compare. You might want to visit Devi International near Madhavan Park, Jayanagar for a good range of LEDs.

Thanks a lot nareshov.

Any suggestions on LED models worth buying in the price range? I don't want to be taken for a ride in the store.

I will check Devi coming weekend hopefully and see what I find.

In May 2014 I picked up the Samsung 40F6600 for Rs.42500 in Chennai, grey market, for a friend. It has everything you mention. The models would have changed and the prices, just to give you an indicator.

Look at the LG TV's. The LA and LB series have all that you are looking for.
I bought one in 2013 for 80 K with all bells and whistles. The size was 47". It's going great so far.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have found the following TVs quite suitable and in good price too, but in Flipkart and I am not keen on buying from there.

So firstly, are these good in picture (including 3D quality played from USB) and sound, is anyone using them? Also, would these prices be similar to in-store prices? Any thoughts?

Those are awesome prices. Which website is it? Definitively visit a store and give them the counter price. I did the same with Giria's and he matched the online price. Also got 0% interest EMI for 1 year.

Found this screen size to distance calculator very handy.

http://www.rtings.com/info/televisio...e-relationship

I am also looking for a Full HD tv where the viewing distance would be 8'. From the calculator, looks like I can go up to 55" tv.
