re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Looked at some mindblowing OLED displays from LG. Certainly worth to put it in my consideration set. I believe they leave even 4K far behind. The blacks were just perfect, taking me back to the Pioneer Plasma Era. (To me KUROs are the benchmark, till date.)

The razor thin edges are really neat, making it the slimmest no doubt, and no bezel to be seen.

Another issue with my Sony Bravia 40 inch 452. Will give you a backdrop.

This new replacement LED TV had some internal power issue which was repaired under warranty in October 2014. I did try to get extended warranty but some issues cropped up from their end and couldn't do it. On the morning of India - SA match, the TV refused to switch on. Problem detected was kaput panel. Thankfully panel has a warranty of 2 yrs so should be replaced free of cost. Waiting for and early resolution. I feel that Sony TVs are losing their good quality now.
Update from my side.
The panel was replaced a couple of days back. I was under the impression that they will bring in the LED screen and fit it into our TV. I was so wrong. The panel as in the area where LED is fixed is the whole damn TV. Other than the speakers and power card that were borrowed from older one, its a new TV! Good job by Sony.
As per the technician, my 5 year old TV requires a panel change and since LCDs are no more available, he said that i'll have to pay for the panel but will get a replacement LED TV. Am seriously contemplating that now.

Hi all planning to upgrade from my 14yr old TV to a new TV. I don't know what all I should look for in a TV of this generation :banghead: & the best screen size for a living room of 10*16 size. Any pointers on this will be really helpful. My budget is around 60k. TIA
Try this , I bought one for my guest room recently , was delivered in 4 days as the shipment was from Delhi , my initial impressions are positive as far as picture clarity is concerned , overall quality of product / plastics is very cheap but what else can one get in less than 50 K

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Need a TV, for very occasional dry use and pretty significant playstation use. Decided on a 40", but confused on what to pick up.
I do not need a smart tv as I'll be connecting my old laptop permanently thru hdmi.

Saw the micromax tv for 23 k, opposed to other brands which are at least 15k more.

After the panel on my sony 42 went bust 2 moths after warranty and cost me quite an amount, I'm sceptical on picking up more expensive tv's.

Is micromax a good choice? Anyone using the same here and any known issues?
Also what all should one look for while purchasing an led tv?

Look at Toshiba. They have a 3 year warranty.

If its for gaming, why not look at a PC monitor?

I think a PC monitor will be much more expensive for the same size. No?

3D tv is not necessary. It's more of a gimmick IMHO.
Go for whatever fits in your budget. And do try to get the extended warranty.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Friends,

I have zeroed in for below models:

1) Toshiba 40P2400 - 34000
Good features and specs. Panel is Japanese and 3yrs warranty is safe
2) Philips PFL5059 - 31500
Good features and specs. 3yrs warranty is safe. But, there are few reviews on panel issues and sound issues.
3) Micromax UHD 42 - 38500
I am tempting to order MMX UHD seeing all the specs and feedback. Seems to be VFM package. But hesitating as its only 1yr warranty.
4) VU 40K16 - 25000
Overall VFM but few issues in refresh rate & DMP

Please advice.

I would go with Toshiba. We use them for presentations in our office meeting rooms and not personally at home though.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

LG 50PB6600 127 cm (50) Plasma TV is available for around Rs. 41000 on Flipkart at the moment. This may not be the best plasma, but those looking for a decent PQ, can consider this, mainly because the price is good. Do read the reviews for this TV first.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Friends,

Here's my story. Searched the showrooms which can provide best picture quality & sound quality. Somehow finalized on Toshiba L5400 Smart LED TV. Its priced at 38000 in flipkart including 2000 discount for today. Its an awesome tv given the features in it compared to LG/Samsung which cost 45K>.

Thanks for all the inputs. The sam model is mentioned as Pro Theatre Series in Malaysia.

Nice pick. I was also searching for the reviews on this series but didn't find much. Please do share your experience with the tv once you get it.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

@ottocycle:
Only issue I see on Smart TVs are about software upgrades.
I am not sure about the processor speed, internal RAM and memory of this model.
As per Toshiba support, they will provide Android upgrade for 2yrs. Not sure after that.
Now, if the apps are slow after 2 yrs; not sure if we need to change the LED or PC board.

I see lot of compliants in LG/Samsung Smart TVs on getting redundant due to old softwares and upgrades needed badly.

Any users who are using Smart TVs, can provide some inputs here please.
