Focus for most of the operators is to reduce the cost of the box and therefore you will not see frills (component or S-Video are considered frills ;-) ). When you see PVR's, that is when you will see these appearing. The new players in the marketspace with MPEG-4 may introduce better quality connectivity. The cost of a MPEG-4/H.264 box is more expensive than MPEG-2. With the cost sensitivity being high, all operators/STB vendors will look at dropping components that add cost. You cannot expect to see HD on these STB's for sometime. Everyone is grabbing marketshare and trying to erode into the cable marketspace.

The S81 isn't worth it. I'd rather buy the 32R81 for 49K and get an ok ok home theatre for 15K will come out to be around 5K more.

Looks like the discount of TV has been wrapped into home theatre. It ain't a great saving but neverthless, it sounds fair to me.

Heard from my Bro in Lucknow, that Pantaloons eZone is selling a Philips 32 LCD for 40K.

This seems to be the Samsung Sonoma. Their lowest model LCD. I'd say drop the combo deal. Hunt for the screen and HT separately. You'll give yourself the luxury of more choices.

Yeah - have seen it displayed for 39,990 - this is the 32TA1600 I think - pretty good picture etc, but no HDMI if I remember right. Anyone with any experience with this set, or its PixelPlus cousin ? (32PF7321 i think)

Current gen philips are nothing great to write home about. Would suggest you avoid them.

DVI vs. HDMI vs. Component Video -- Which is Better?
Some interesting points about HDMI vs component-vide.

@vid thnx - why do you say so ? In store - the Philips PixelPlus's, at least, seemed to be as good as any other TV around. Both for cable/TataSky as well as HD feeds. They're also pretty, and priced well...

About philips 32 TA 1600

was looking for a 32" lcd tv for my bedroom, have sony in the family, love the quality but think its grossly overpriced for it.(or more for the brand).

finally shortlisted samsung(51k) and philips(46k),performance wise both were good, can say samsung was a tad better with the features and the remote.
appearance wise loved the philips - very decent looks against the glossy appearance of samsung.
Anyway finalised samsung and decided to pick it up in the next couple of days.
and when went to the showroom to pick it up -philips has reduced the prices by 6k!! I had to change my decision ,philips 32TA1600 made all the sense,I feel its absolutely vfm.
Bought it about 3 weeks ago for 39500/- and am very satisfied with the performance so far.
In my opinion:-

-quality wise its in the same league as samsung/lg
-very pretty looks.
-specifications and features are more or less the same in all the brands.

@Zenx-it has a DVI-D input(the same as HDMI). I am more than satisfied with the performance so far.To compare check it out at a multi brand showroom and ask the guy to switch on only the 2 you have shortlisted like I did with samsung and philips.

I got a new Sony V300 40 inch LCD and very disappointed watching TV. I am using Hathway STB. Resolution is not up to the mark. My 20 inch CRT TV was much much better.

Can anyone suggest what can I do to improve?
