Steer,

I think he means lets see if MS comes out with a phone now. Which i doubt will happen, for precisely the reasons you mentioned above!

Apparently Apple & Cingular want to keep iPhone users in their respective walled gardens. It seems there is not likely to be any 3rd party apps on the iPhone. This is bad news enough for me to say no thanks.

Story: Maybe MS and HTC (and other manufacturers) will bring out something that's way better than the current bunch of devices -- there hasn't been much innovation in WM devices over the last 2 years. And Crossbow (next iteration of WM5) is mostly just a skinned WM5 with a few improvements. They really need to bring put something more radical now. I hope they feel this way, as I personally don't feel that the iPhone is any competition for the WM devices anymore. Just a glorified PMP with a phone added on. Pity!

This one is for the "in crowd" who want the "in thing".
Functionality wise Creative/Sandisk etc., make better or equallty good mp3 players at lesser price, but IPOD is an IPOD.
Same for this phone.
But I don't think dislodging Nokia is going to be easy.
There is such a wealth of free applications available for Nokia phones that you don't mind lack of software and tools which come in the box.
For my PC syncing etc., etc., bluetooth handsfree blah blah I use all third party stuff.

No third party apps : Says Jobs.
The argument he gives : Cingular does not want their west coast network to come due due to a faulty apps.
So now we know that cingular network keeps failing due to Nokia phones with unauthorized apps
Its going to be a dud after the initial hype dies down.

I too think it's going to be a dud. Especially since phones which are high on style & low on actual substance rarely sell well. And there are a lot of "INNOVATIONS" that Apple touts which have to be tested before we can take a judgement on their usefulness.

Agreed but I think one factor was that the Razor was priced at an affordable level. Whereas most of the other stylish phones are highly-priced & hence less attractive to the buyers eg. the Nokia 8800.

Apple's pricing doesn't look very conducive to high sales but we'll have to wait & watch how the market responds & how user-friendly the phone is since we could all be wrong here.

In 2008 a phone with 8GB memory, 2MP camera, no 3G, no GPS will be a disaster! I think the Nokia N95 has already got it beat, features wise. All that the iPhone has is style.

I was initially extremely excited about the iPhone, thinking it to be the perfect companion to my Macbook Pro. But its only worth it if it is available immediately.

Lets hope Apple will underpromise and overdeliver. Otherwise this is gonna be one huge flop. They will especially have to improve on the battery which is internal (cannot be removed) and has inadequate capacity.
