I have been getting the google timeline report since the time I have got my Poco F1. It's quite interesting to get the report on the first week of every month.

Since my work makes me travel a fair bit I find it handy. Here are my stats, the travel is a mix of both road trips as well as flights :

My location history was turned on for 187 days, I know it would have been much more travelling as I find a lot of my January, February, March trips not accounted for.

I also use my timeline to check the exact route that I had taken in the past when I fail to recollect the route. Since my timeline has the access to google photos, I even get to see the photos taken tagged with the location. Feels quite nostalgic sometimes.

I don't see why I should be concerned about privacy.

I set up my commute and enabled the Google Location History a few months back, hoping that it would Maps would learn my travel routine and suggest routing options depending on time and traffic. So far, it hasn't happened. I wonder if there is some option I am missing.

It could be an issue with my phone GPS, but I find that the Location History is not completely accurate and many times I get questions like "Were you at X" or "Are you here?" and I have to manually edit the entry. This is not for any random visit, but also when I am at work/home. I am thinking of disabling Location History as it is not proving as useful as I hoped.

From what I have understood from this Google Timeline feature, it only works when the GPS is turned on. In my case, I turn on GPS exclusively when I need it (navigation and booking cab). Hence, my timeline has sporadic data most of which is pretty useless. Do others keep GPS on always on their phone so that their timeline has accurate tracking of movement?

I did not like being told by google where I was, so have turned my location off.
Yes, Uber, Swiggy,etc work perfectly well despite all this.

Google Timeline is Google Latitude in a new bottle. One place I use them is for stats in planning future trips on the same highway. Another usage I've seen is I have to tracing timeline of yearly events, helps in 'vacation' planning

Timewise, Google Timeline is inaccurate (off by a few minutes) even if you used Google Maps to get there at the first place. If you stopped less than 5 minutes, it won't even show the place in the Timeline.

This is my timeline. 2018 looks amazing as far as travel is concerned. I visited Leh and Kanyakumari in the same year. I used Gmap in offline mode(downloaded maps) extensively in Ladakh region, it shows perfectly in the timeline.

I just figured this out. Email updates is enabled in the settings but I have never received any timline update. Searched my inbox. Nada. Funny.
