Does DUAL SIM really mean 2 IMEI nos ? I think IMEI is the identity of the phone and not the Sim card.

I too have a Chinese Dual SIM phone, using just to ensure having coverage all the time. Working fine for last 2 years. On my phone it shows up only one IMEI which is also shown on the sticker within the casing.

Been doing some analysis of dual sim phones: GSM-GSM and have narrowed down to the following:

Fly DS 500 - Great slider phone, with touch and key pad, looks good too - 7600/-
Fly DS 410 - basic Rs.2990/-
Fly B 700, all functions of 500 with camera- 6000/-

Of all the Samsung Duel ones, I've narrowed down to
C5212, reports are good, reviews on GSM-Arena are good - fro Rs.6780/- This has emerged as a branded choice.

Are there any better duel sim phones? Are these prices OK?

Most reviews complained of battery life, the best being the C5212, need to charge every alternate days, rest looks OK. The FLY phones look the worst in terms of battery life.

My father uses a Samsung D780 dual GSM phone.
He is overall happy with the phone quality, sound quality and features.
The only problem is that the battery goes off (charged a bit more frequently than every alternate day) quicker than the standard Nokia phones which he was used to earlier.

I am currently using a Chinese Brand called Alfatel which works really fine and has all features like motion sensor, touchscreen etc. Only problem is the battery life is short. However, that can be extended if one keeps the keypad / phone locked which means that the touchpad is not active. Has saved me the trouble of carrying around two phones all the time which becomes a bit of a problem especially after one gets home and changes into casuals !

Won't the necessity of connecting to TWO networks necessarily mean half the backup time? Why is it surprising?

I guess so phamilyman, that is a good point ! However, I did'nt say it was surprising, just mentioned the fact of battery life, that's all !

I like to add here that this phone uses a battery which is compatible with Nokia's BL5C battery and I did check out this phone using the original BL5C battery and that gave me additional battery life by almost 50% for my normal usage.

Guess Chinese batteries are always a little suspect !

This thread has remained dormant for almost a year... despite new models in the market.

Anybody using dual SIM phones still around??

Am considering Samsung B5722. Seems to be the only half decent option around, though it does not seem to have many of the features I'd look for like auto focus camera, multitasking, etc... so its not a smart phone. :( Also, I don't quite like the looks... at least in pics (haven't seen a real working model... or even a dummy for that matter).

If any there are any users here (or of other models), reviews would be very helpful as haven't been able to find any good user reviews online. :(

Guys, do check if your chinese dual sim phones has a call waiting facility. Two of my colleague's phone dont.

Hi, I'm using a Samsung C3212. It serves mainly as a second phone. I do not use any of the multimedia applications, only use it for calls and sms.

The only problem i have faced is with the T9 dictionary, it goes crazy sometimes and starts giving the most unused option first. apart from that the phone is pretty good.
The problem with the T9 dictionary seems to be a trait with samsung mobiles. :Frustrati

My sister uses the samsung D980 and is pretty happy with it, the camera is good, has got autofocus and LED flash too.

Thats scary! If I end up buying a phone without call waiting, it will be useless for me! :eek:


About C3212 - This will be way too basic and it only has a VGA camera. Also, I need a phone with good texting facilities... so if the T9 acts up on me, its no goo

About D980 - Seems to have good specs, will check it out. But it seems to be a 2008 model...

What I really need to know is can these (and whatever other models) handle calls on both SIMs well? I mean if you are on call thru one SIM, what happens if someone calls on the other SIM? I'd expect it to give call waiting message on screen as cannot afford to loose calls on the other phone.

Also, are the call logs, SMS count, address book and other data segregated properly for both the numbers? If not, then I'd have to continue to stick to the hassle of using/carrying 2 phones. :(

I am using a Samsung D780 since last 1 year. If I am talking on first SIM and another call comes on the second SIM, I get a message on the screen about the call waiting.
The call logs and SMS display the SIM number next to them so that I can know which call/SMS was received on which SIM.

The samsung phones can handle on both sims well. when you are on a call, whether someone calls sim1 or sim2 you will get a notification. im not too sure whether the person calling you gets a call waiting or ringing notification. However if you put call divert from sim 1 to sim 2, and vice versa and someone calls you, then the call does get dropped, so remember to cancel call divert soon as you get the dual sim phone. (I learnt it the hard way after a few days of people complaining that they are not getting through my number)

In the samsung phones the call logs, inbox, contacts are stored as a unified one, however on the side there is a small icon indication whether it is on sim 1 or sim2 or in the phone memory (for sms and contacts).

@Abeer, how is the camera of the D780? It does not seem to have auto focus or flash/torch. :( And what about battery backup times?

IMO, this is not a good way to implement it. It can cause confusion/mistakes. Ideally, they should have 2 separate profiles, so that you only see the text messages and contacts, etc., of the SIM you have chosen. I guess dual SIM phone makers don't think likewise... :(

Nobody using Samsung B5722 here? Sad that none of the biggies except Samsung is showing any interest in dual SIM phones when so many people these days have to use more than one phone.

I did not find the camera to be good. The photos are not clear. But then it does not matter much, as I don\'t use the camera.
Battery is ok types. Not very good to speak about. I charge it every 2 days.
I am satisfied with the phone as I am able to listen to music, record phone conversations, send/receive sms, switch sim cards on the fly before making a call or sending an sms.

I am looking for a dual-SIM phone, BUT without a camera. Current workplace doesnt allow mobile phones with camera.

I did some online search, but could not find any decent models. Any inputs, anyone?

I would like to have as much of features like Bluetooth, MP3, FM radio in that order. But looks like a tough choice, as there are only very basic dual-SIM phones without camera : all others have a camera by default :Frustrati.
