Re: The Online Shopping Thread

Has anyone used the services of Snapmint EMI? Wanting to buy a faber cooktop and that model is available on the company website. Snapmint is providing 0% EMI without Credit/Debit cards on their site.

Wanted to get some idea of how it works and is it safe?

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

Just wanted to share some recent experience on Amazon. In end Jan and early Feb of this year I made multiple small purchases.

Ordered extension cord / surge protector of a well known brand. Delivery I get was a small plastic flower put inside a paper bag. I immediately complained on the app and return was picked up next day. However more than two weeks later I still have not got refund. Status is showing that Amazon have not received the returned item.

Ordered short hdmi cables, pack of two. Again some mistake happened at seller end and I got only one piece. Complained, item picked up and got two pieces after a few days. Resolved.

Ordered slightly longer hdmi cables, again pack of two. We were at home on scheduled delivery date, even received another order delivered but not this particular item. On the app it was marked delivered. After multiple follow up, refund on single piece has been initiated.

Key takeaways, in my opinion:
1. Order mix up is happening more often.
2. Return and refund is more cumbersome now, most probably due to abuse of return feature by customers.

Try using the call back feature on their app. The customer service people are helpful (in some cases constrained by what they are allowed to do) and try to give a quick resolution.

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

Online shopping has become a real pain now with the change in return policies and verification. Ordered few dresses for wife in Myntra and one come without a price tag, brand tag or a barcode even on the external plastic bag. We had to return it due to fit issues but then came the question of how to return something without a tag. Almost initiated a return for damaged product, had a second thought and decided to reach out to customer care. Used the chat option, had to deal with the bot which had a mind of its own and finally managed to connect with a real human. She raised a complaint after asking for pics of the product and told they will be opening an investigation into this and asked not to raise a return until this investigation is over. After a few hours, the closed the case an initiated a return themselves. Product is yet to be picked up, I hope the guy who comes up for the pick up is well aware of the missing tag issue.

When I think about it, may it was an attempt from the seller to cheat the customer by rejecting a return for missing tags in case a return is requested. I am happy i didn't initiate a return but chose to reach customer care instead.

I also had a similar experience with a couple of small-ticket items, both of which were electronics from relatively unknown manufacturers or sellers. One return took almost six months to process, while the second return is still pending after one year. Whenever complaints are raised, it consistently shows that the return has yet to reach the seller. Interestingly, a negative review stating the same issue, using the same wording as above but including the term 'fraudulent,' was removed, citing it as an abusive post.

I tried multiple times to raise issue, and the bot kept leading me back to order page. It goes like this:
Bot: Do you have problem with this item?
Me: Yes.
Bot: please check order page (gives me link to order page, I think, I don't exactly recall)
On order page it shows all is hunky dory.

I have chatted with a human being once, who assured refund within one hour. Which did not happen. I have subsequently, on another date, spoken to another human representative, who passed it on to a colleague. Now refund on one item out of pack of two has been initiated.

I persume you are using the app to raise the request.
Try navigating to the "menu" option (hamburger icon) and then navigate to customer service, there you get the choice to call / chat.

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

I too got scammed a few days back, when I responded to an offer on Facebook, of a "5 in 1 all purpose versatile heavy duty tool kit, a pair of pliers with detachable attachments". Looked very useful and it was COD, so I though of taking a chance, intending to insist on opening the parcel before making the payment of 799 bucks. Unfortunately I wasn't home when it arrived and my wife accepted it and paid for it.
What came out of the parcel was an ordinary pair of pliers, which would cost less than Rs. 250 on Amazon and probably even less than that in a hardware store.
So, lesson learned, though at least they were considerate enough to send a real pair of pliers, rather than some crap in the package.
A closer look at the website, rather late in the day, revealed no address or phone number or correct contact details. Two emails to the support ID haven't been answered, so I suppose that's it for me.
The site, for those who want to know, is gunkart.in

Re: The Online Shopping Thread

Caution: do check the return/replacement policy before buying anything online. The policies have changed drastically and we got so used to the old return policies that we close our eyes and buy anything without worrying about receiving a bad product.

Recently ordered 2x pack of 2 = 4 pieces in total in Amazon, and received only 2. When I tried to return, found that there is no return available, only exchange. How am I supposed to exchange a missing item? The customer care link was hidden deep inside somewhere, took sometime to figure it out and initiated a chat. Luckily the agent offered a refund for the missing item. Wonder how less tech savvy and elderly people are going to deal with such situations. The discounts have also dried up in most categories, bank cashback offers are coming down to 7.5% from 10,capped at a limit, or available only for EMI transactions. I'm seriously thinking of going back to brick and mortar shops now; I may not get deep discounts, but customer satisfaction is guaranteed.

I think it's getting more difficult to talk to a human with every passing day. Till last week I did what you wrote above using the 'Talk to us' button. Today I tried to do that for one of my orders and it'd go in circles to show the same order detail that I'd anyway see in the order list in the app.

After a lot of head banging I resorted to the chat button which has all pre configured bot replies and was again going in circles until I saw a free text dialog box at bottom. I typed "talk to human" and was let to a call back option finally.

Online Seller Websites Thread - Alternatives to Amazon/Flipkart

Inspiration for this post was from a TechEnclave thread. I also want to know more about spare parts being sold online for DIYers.

This is a list of mostly stuff I am interested in buying and could find, so it's not complete. However, feel free to add more links to it. I'd really like it if people could only post links to websites they have experience with and not ask which websites to buy from!

I have written the list in Markdown since that's what I'm most familar with, you can access it with proper formatting as a Github Gist.

I really hope to see more websites listed, especially 2nd hand stores if they're available at all. We can all agree that OLX is kind of in a sad state, and without eBay India, I haven't really found anything else that is cost effective, or is free of import risks.
