Not answering your specific question, but buying from Croma (and apparently Reliance et al.) does change the warranty terms. I'd want the warranty to lie with the manufacturer and not from the reseller (Croma, Reliance etc.).

I'm looking to replace our aging fridge with a Bottom Mount/Bottom Freezer (where the Freezer is mounted at the bottom, which allows the Vegetable drawer to be uptop, where it's a lot more accessible).

Bosch, Haier & Whirlpool seem to have the most options in this configuration.

Any first hand recommendations for these 3 manufacturers, specially with post sales service and product longetivity?

Thanks for the quick input! And to the others who shared valuable inputs as well.
Given all these parameters that came into the equation went with LG Refrigerator.

LG 466L 2-Star Double Door Refrigerator with Smart Inverter Compressor, Door Cooling™ in Shiny Steel Finish: Link
We have been using Samsung for the last 10 years and decided to change due to need for a larger refrigerator.
Purchased from Devi International, Jayanagar and the Refrigerator was delivered promptly today. Someone from LG would be coming tomorrow to demo and set it up.

Croma, Girias and Reliance Digital all mentioned this. I interpreted it as an additional option. Does it mean if we buy from these outlets they become the point of contact and we cannot go to company directly?

You could double check. A neighbor narrated their story - they bought a fridge from croma/reliance. The fridge developed an issue in the first few weeks. Manufacturer said contact the seller for spares. Seller (Reliance/Croma) dragged their feet in getting the spare.

Re: The Home Appliance thread

In the market for a Front loading washing machine that cleans well (soiled school uniforms). The Whirlpool top load is not cleaning well.

Any recommendation for a budget of about 25K?

Are Haier washing machines good?

There are two parts to the warranty.

1. Factory warranty, normally one to two years. This is available once you register the appliance with the manufacturer. Normally in our case when ever we buy LG, Samsung etc. from Chroma or other multi brand retail store, we get the installation done by the authorised agent of the manufacturer (not by Chroma etc.). That ensures that the machine is fine as delivered and the warranty is valid. The installation engineer will also tell you how to enable the basic warranty.

2. Extended warranty. This is warranty after the basic warranty expires. Here you have the option of either going for manufacturer's warranty or the sellers. You can opt for the manufacturer's warranty after the appliance is installed, by either calling the service department or through the installation engineer.

All our appliances, whether bought from Chroma or the retail store have warranty and the extended warranty from the manufacturer.

You have to be vigilant while getting the warranty/extended warranty at the shop, as they will always try to sell the "Store" warranty, rather than the "Manufacturer's" warranty.

Re: The Home Appliance thread

Has anyone recently bought a dehumidifer? Bombay monsoon has made a case to buy one. Absorbia and other bit is not proving to be sufficient.

How does it help? Is it needed due to some medical condition or any other benefit of the same?

Re: The Home Appliance thread

Dehumidifier have a compressor which converts the moisture in the air into water. This brings down the humidity in the room (wherever its kept ON). This helps in ensuring the molds, fungus etc. doesn't find its way as they thrive in high humid environment.

Remember simple dehumidifier will throw warmer air at the outlet.

Your AC has a dry/dehumidifier mode and you can use it and also use to control temperature.

In any cooling mode, AC will be removing water from the air. You can watch it dripping from the drain. I think it is this, almost more than lower temperature, that increases my comfort.

Hi,

I have been using a dehumidifier for the last 20 odd years in Bombay.

The first one was a GE brand. That lasted 12 or 13 years. I have another one now. Bought from Croma. Well worth it or else the walls are dripping with condensation when you switch off the AC and open the room door.

Cheers,
SS

I have been using Sharp dehumidifier since last 4 years. If mold has already set in the walls and/or wooden furniture, dehumidifier helps a bit but it is a difficult task to get rid of invisible mold due to lack of effective mold control professionals.

I have been getting mixed feedback about the drying performance of the LG 11/7 washer-dryer. The salesperson at LG showroom said a separate dryer performs better than this washer-dryer with respect to drying.
So just wished to reconfirm your actual experience about the drying performance. For example , Can you simply fold them up and stack in cupboard?

As I had explained there are different drying cycles for different needs.

. Full drying cycle will dry your clothes fully, so you can just fold and store them. The only problem is that some fabric may develop creases, and that has to be ironed out. Synthetics are perfectly fine.

. Partial dry is the best. There is no crease, but the fabric is a bit moist. Just right for ironing. You can also use this cycle if you do not want crease. Just take them out and dry them under a fan and they will dry in around 15 minutes max.

One thing that you have to take into account is the weight. The washing max weight is 11kg, while the dryer is 7 kg. So a full load of 11kg will either not dry fully, or as usually happens will take much longer. When I wash duvets in winter, the drying is partial in the full cycle. You either hang the duvet to dry, or run 1/2 hour drying cycle one or two times.

What you can do is to dry the clothes partially and then take the clothes that are to be ironed out, and then fully dry the rest.

STRUGGLING WITH FAN

I prefer using ceiling 48 inch fans at a slow speed, especially when the air conditioner is running. However, I have noticed that many of the newer fans with high speeds (370–400 RPM) feel too strong even on the lowest setting, which makes the room uncomfortably cold for me.

I’d really appreciate suggestions for low RPM ceiling fans, both induction and BLDC types ?
Also, if someone could share insights on the reliability of BLDC fans and the cost or ease of repair in case of any issues, that would be very helpful.
