There are many reasons why capacitors fail this way. The most likely cause is the film capacitor's ripple current rating may have been exceeded and a catastrophic failure is likely. That is a tough question.

Legrand, Crabtree come to mind. Expect to pay around Rs.350 + for a good quality 100 W regulator.

Is there any first order assessment on what to look for in a refrigerator from a brands point of view? Any segmentation which has already been created? Or its purely budget based and all brands are same today?

Water pressure & Fully automatic washing machine.

We had recently moved to a new place, a single house; the terrace had a washing area. So the fully automatic LG washing machine found a place in the terrace, under the water tank. A semi closed enclosure; with power sockets; washing machine drain point... etc.

We rig up; connect and after switching on; the water was just not entering the washing machine.

Couple of flips through the user manual and we realize the water pressure should be a minimum of 30kPa. Looking at the tank, placed about 5 feet above terrace I doubt if the pressure would be 30kPa.

So, the first round of washing was the good ol manual way. By hand.

Anyone else faced such an issue? How do we get around it?
Is a pressure booster pump the only way out?

- The bathrooms are not all that big to accommodate a washing machine?
- Leaving the washing machine on the Ground floor is not an option as the cloth lines are on the terrace. (There isnt much space around the house for a cloth line. This is one of those Bangalore layouts; where we have houses on 3 sides with a couple feet to spare).
- Does top loading washing machine too have such restrictions? I know for a fact that semi automatic ones does not have an issue with water pressure.

Can someone suggest a good Blu-Ray player in the price range 4500 to 6500?
Apart from the usual formats it should also be capable of playing .MKV.

Second Query -

Can I connect the Digital Audio Optical Out from LED TV to Optical In to the Home Theatre? This is because my existing Home theatre system is not capable of playing Blu-Ray. So, I would be connecting the Blu-Ray player via the second HDMI port.

Yes.

The HT system can decode the 5.1 Dolby D/DTS streams (from the HD channels) when the audio is fed from the digital out of the TV.

One of our water heaters in the house is tripping very often these days. It's an old item - atleast 10-12 years old. What could be the reason ? Is it mineral scales on the element? Can this be fixed DIY ?

Disconnect the connections (if any) to the thermostat (black box with reset switch) and pull it out. Clean it, especially the contacts and put it back. Mine had too much moisture in there causing the tripping of elcb.

If it doesn't help, you may have to replace the thermostat (~Rs 500) or the heating coils.
