As I ve explained before, I only use 5A surge protectors and haven't tried or come across the 15A versions of the same. I have also explained how it is effective enough in protecting the entire house if you have a good quality ELCB coupled with it.

Irrespective of the variant, they're all equally effective. The only difference in the higher variants is that they offer protection for the telephone and the cable circuits as well. Apart from that they are all almost the same. So you can buy this one without much of a compromise functionally.

You have a better price for this on paytm - Rs.647 after cashback. And yes, it should suffice for your LED TV.

Re: The Home Appliance thread

Dishwasher users, which brand/model can accommodate half loading facility? The showroom guys are unaware of what is this and starts explaining about features which are not relevant. And what is the best buy? Croma and RD where we enquired about Bosch provides erratic pricing. Any suggestions.

Our Samsung dishwasher can run half loads and quick wash etc
Been using it almost 3 years now and running well. There was a plumbing issue once and they changed some inlet valves but I think it was more due to the outlet drain being clogged than an issue with the dishwasher.

Re: The Home Appliance thread

Need advice on the best Side by Side Refrigerator. My current 8 year old Whirlpool 265 Litres Double Door has been giving us problems. It has been leaking Water and looks like it cannot be repaired despite multiple visits from Service Technician - Company authorized and outside.
We definitely need more space than the current 265 litres model but are not sure Side by Side is the right option.

@DWind; Side by side looks great but the useful capacity is minimal. So be careful. My son has one and we are regretting it (came as part of the flat).

Re: The Home Appliance thread

I am looking to buy a few home appliance this Navratras.

Fridge, Washing Machine & Microwave (old ones to be disposed)

Can people suggest if buying online (via Flipkart - big billion day) will be ok? Will the brands like LG honor warranty? Are there any issues ? Do I need to pay extra to get warranty?

I also have an option to get it from CSD, will that be a better option than flipkart?

A French door refrigerator is more practical and better than side by side. It has freezer at bottom with double door (side by side look) refrigerator with water dispenser at top. I am using a Samsung one for more than 3 years now without any issue.

Re: The Home Appliance thread

I bought a spice/coffee grinder in UK a couple of months ago.

Not taking the instructions seriously, I have already ruined it already. I told my wife, yeah, I can make that herbal powder really fine for you! Well, it cost me the machine.

It runs, and everything rotates freely, but only at a fraction of the speed; too slow to work at all.

What does that indicate to people here who understand motors? Is it that maybe one or more, but not all, coils are burnt out? I looked inside, and could not see any evidence of burn.

Of course, it is a very small motor compared to a pump, or even a mixie, but is there a chance that the rewinding guys could cope?

It was not very expensive. The thing is, it was really really good at doing one specific task: grinding a very small amount of pepper or mustard seed to a fine powder in just a moment. Sometimes the one-job tool is worth it, and I now miss it almost every time I cook.

First of all, what kind of motor is that ? Is it 'universal' motor - the kind with carbon brushes and a rotating armature ? Or the squirrel cage type induction motor where you have the winding on the stator ?

If the motor is of the latter kind, you can get the coil rewound in one of the specialist shops dealing with transformer rewinding in Ritchie street. I used to send microwave HT transformers for rewinding there and they do a good job. You will have to dismantle the motor and hand it to them.

The universal motors can be rewound with auto electrical shops who rewind starting motors of cars. Not every automobile electrical shop will do this though.

Our 8yr old IFB Neptune has this feature. Wash quality is good. Detergent, additives can be purchased online.

IFB free service is horrible but paid ones are promptly attended to

Hope this helps.

I think it is the first kind.

There is one coil either side: that's the static elctromagnet bit, right? Stator?
There are bushes, and what looks like an incredibly complex multipart winding on the rotating part.

I could get another one from Amazon.uk for a mere UKŁ25 inc. carriage, but plus any import hassles
