Find an electrical shop that does small motor rewinding, you should find one who repair window winding motors, if not there will be one that does pump motor repairs. Let them check the motor and that small capacitor. They will give you proper diagnosis.

Actually, I don't blame her at all: it was entirely due to my misuse based on lack of understanding.

Local street mixie guy might help - provided he can do a competent job. Best bet would be automobile electricians who could source carbon brushes of all kinds if need be. There is one chap near Indira nagar shopping center and another chap is a little away from Bharath School, adjacent to what was Eros theater.

Do you mean the old shopping complex on 1st Ave? I got Bharat School, and come to think of it, I think I know it, but don't know Eros.

All right. Take the road 2nd avenue which takes you to the Indira nagar water tank and from the water tank take a left and go straight. You will reach corporation shopping complex on the right. Next to the shopping complex you will find a battery shop. Just next to the battery shop is an auto electrician. He will do the job at reasonable rates.

The other alternative is take the road in which the Barath school is. Go a little further and you will find a small autoelectrician shop on the left.

BTW, the Mitsubishi show room was once - a theater called as Eros.

Thank you Prowler! I can even visualise your directions now. Should have no trouble in finding those places, especially the Indira Nagar one. I drive on those roads regularly to reach Adyar but avoiding LB Road.

It sounds like a better bet than trying a local mixie/pump guy.

Yes, I know the Mitsubishi showroom. Maybe I haven't been here long enough to recall it being a theatre, but, never having been a movie-goer, I don't keep theatres in my head.

OT: Sadly Madras has few theaters left now. Eros in Adyar, Casino and Devi in Mount road used to be the favorites of the students for English movies. They have survived to this day - at least in some form. Eros briefly became a marriage hall about a decade ago and then into this showroom. Only old timers of this part of the town recall their original names.

Finalizing Kitchen Chimney. Most probably would go for Elica 60 cm with baffle filter. Now the question is about how much suction power is required?

There is some open space on the back side of kitchen wall, therefore outlet would not be vary long, most probably it would be possible to take outlet from the kitchen / platform wall itself. I am ready to go for higher (around 1100/1200) suction power but local dealer suggests that there won't be any advantage and 925 will be sufficient. According to him, only advantage/purpose of going with higher suction power is to support longer outlet, otherwise in all kind of cooking, performance would be same.

Kindly suggest since I don't have any prior experience in using Chimneys earlier.

My Haier Fridge which is 10 years old doesn't cool that well anymore. It cools but not as well as before. I called the Haier Service, they said that compressor has developed a problem. It overheats and shuts off before it reaches the required temperature - I am not sure how they diagnosed that. And they said the compressors are never repaired, you have change it and it costs around 8000 Rs. Plus gas to be refilled costing another 2K or so. I am not sure if it's worth spending 10K on a 10 year old fridge (It's a 300 Litre double door, top freezer fridge, I think). I think I can get a new one for 15-20K.

However, I wanted to know from people here if it's worth getting a 2nd opinion. Also if compressors in fact cannot be repaired. Or is there any other jugaad to keep this running for a few more years?

Get an independent mechanic to check the fridge. What Haier says may be true. The overload relay may also have gone bad, the independent mechanic can confirm if it so.

In case the compressor is gone, there is no point in spending 10K to repair it. Get a new one and sell this one off. The minimum we get in Delhi in such case is 2K, which may go upto 5K, no more.

Over the years we have gravitated to 2 refrigerators, one large and one medium. The reason is that larger bodies, when they develop a problem are pretty expensive to repair, where as 250-300L, which are made in India are relatively inexpensive to repair. Further two machines mean that all long term storage is one and daily needs in another.

Another question. My fridge is Haier HRF 281FR/A. Online manuals I found for this fridge say the capacity is as follows

Now if I want to buy a new fridge of the same capacity, should I look for a 281 Litre fridge or a 237 Litre fridge?

I wasn't ready to shell out 4200rs for a new print head. So pulled out the head from my printer and gave it a thorough cleaning. Used cleaning buds and then kitchen roll wipes to suck all the dye stuck inside. Used about 5 sheets of paper and 10 buds. Seemed to be a lot of dye inside. Also sprayed the head with adidas perfume to clean the metal contacts and ran the hair dryer on it for 5 mins. Voila the print head worked fine after that and printed an impeccable photo on glossy photo paper. The error no longer appeared and for now, I may have saved 4.2k. I hope this lasts for a couple of years and helps others with similar errors of the print head not being rejected or getting unrecognized print head error etc
I wish I had now done this earlier as well when I first changed the head at the canon service center for 3200 in 2012!

I want to get rid of our cleaning maid as I'm not a fan of the whole brooming concept. I had recently bought the Gala mop and can mop my small 2bhk flat in less than 10 mins. I was thinking if I get a vacuum cleaner I'd be able to clean the whole house (and I mean every nook and corner) in less than an hour.

I finalized Karcher's MV3 model which was a good balance between what I'm willing to spend on a vacuum cleaner (8-10k) and what all it would do.

I'm not sure why the MV3 Premium model is not available in India and what's really the difference between MV3 and MV3 P so any help here would be appreciated.

From what I've read and seen (youtube videos) on the net around the MV3 model, its going to serve me adequately. However, I'm not sure what's the frequency at which I'd be looking at replacing paper bags or other filters.

Basically I want to know what's the recurring expense that I should be prepared for if I decide to let go of my cleaning maid and rather do all the cleaning using this vacuum cleaner? I live in a fairly dusty area and my rented flat has a lot of harmless cellar spiders.

My main objective is to be able to:

1) Clean the ceiling & corners and get rid of cellar spiders and webs and other infestation in or around the flat.

2) Replace the century old brooming with vacuum cleaning

3) Blow dust off from the huge 3-side open balcony every once in a week or fortnight.

Have I shortlisted the right product? Is there a far better product if I choose to spend another 2-3k?

I think this may be difficult with the model you've selected because of the labor involved in dragging the machine around, the power cabling and the unwieldy suction rod. If you have done this before in the past and your decision is based on that then fine. We take out our vacuum only for extremely dusty messes and little else. So maybe once in three to six months. If you can get a rechargeable handy vacuum then I think you will sustain. I was tempted to purchase a 400$ one when in the US but at the last second I dropped it. There are also robotic roomba models which one can purchase but in furniture crowded homes may not work out.
One option I have been discussing with my wife is to have the maid mop first, sweep and mop again. This is basically to prevent the dust from rising and setting on other objects. Not sure if it will work but will give it a shot.
