Photo software with face recognition | Is Picasa still the best?

Want to scan my entire hard-drive to find pictures of Mom & Dad. I remember Picasa doing an incredible job when I'd used it a few years back. It literally didn't miss a single pic and even spotted individuals in a crowd! Is Picasa still the best? Google has stopped supporting Picasa, but here's a download link that seems to be legit.

Should I use Picasa, or is there something newer & better? OS = Windows 10.

Thanks!

I still use Picasa. Nothing comes close to its ease of use.

Is Picasa still available?

As per this page, Picasa is retired.
Google recommends Google Photos https://photos.google.com instead

I use Google Photos and my entire photo libraries are uploaded on Google Photos. I pay Rs. 130/month and I get 100GB cloud storage which sounds like a good deal to me.

And Google Photos does very good face recognition too. It had never failed me when I tried to search for some faces. Not just faces, the power of Google's image search is quite good. I can search for pictures of "wheels" or "car front views" or " beach views" or "mountains" etc and it fetches the right ones. I can even search by location (all my photos have Geo Tags), date etc. I found Google Photos search to be incredibly useful.

I have not used Picasa in a long time so can not comment on that, but I feel Google Photos should suffice for you needs (And Google Photos is the successor of Picasa in some ways). An added advantage: It is cloud based so your photos are available to you on any device anywhere.

If you are on Mac, Apple Photos also does it. Infact it does it locally on the device itself.

Google photos does the job perfectly. It has a very advanced AI / ML and face recognition algorithm. Its able to pick up all photos based on faces and combinations as well. One can upload their library on Google cloud and access through Photos app on any laptop or mobile device.

The last I checked there was nothing like Picasa. The saddest part is I was still using it but its linkage to external drives and folders would break often so that was irritating.

However, you may check out XnView MP - Its a THOROUGH Media Viewing & Browsing Library second only to Adobe Bridge and Lightroom

Google Photos any day. It does the same. Scan all pics and perfectly keeps them ready to search by the face.

Re: Photo software with face recognition | Is Picasa still the best?

I am looking for an offline image scanning application. Is Picasa the only option? Any other good Windows application? I am going to use it primarily to cleanup WhatsApp images in a Windows laptop.
