New browser on the block

The Safari for Windows (beta) is now launched. It can be downloaded from the apple site. I just downloaded and its quite cool. The font is nice and legible! And apple claims its faster than IE. (the typical race!)

Apple also says "Safari is the fastest browser running on Windows, based on the industry standard iBench tests, rendering web pages up to twice as fast as IE 7 and up to 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2."

Don’t know if its true...but I still prefer Firefox.

Cheers

DO not download wait. First day security vulnerabilities were found. So hold your horses, wait for a few more days.
Already its a resource hogger and is performing much worse than competition.

Figured out the problem.

1. Safari reads the IE settings.
2. My IE was set for direct connection to the Internet, Firefox is used for LAN connections

Uninstall Safari, correct LAN settings on IE and then re-install. Worked for me. Not tried the option of correcting the IE settings and then trying to connect through Safari. The proxies button coming disabled seems to be a bug, but then the browser is still beta.

Tried the re-sizing of the text fields. it works and is really cool. Impressed ... definitely faster than IE and Firefox.

One grouse - Gmail browser chat does not work for me.

I tried that (correcting the IE settings and connected through Safari) and it works.

I've got mixed feelings abt this one. At office, when I tried to browse in it for the first time, it asked for the LAN credentials to authenticate at our ISA Servers - and after supplying them - did a Microsoft: crashed with a runtime error

At home no problems. Altho, I still prefer IE 7.

Nothing beats Firefox 2.0. It's still the fastest of all.
Safari is somewhere between IE7 and Firefox 2.0.

Huh! I'm suprised by people still using IE.
Firefox is my browser and I can hardly live without it and it's extensions. Nothing comes close.

And Safari! It's an Apple product. You know what to expect when coupled with a Microsoft product. Lots of trouble and waiting, then it crashes to make you run back to Firefox.

Safari is not an apple product - it a modification of an opensource browser for Mac OSX.

Internet & Web - Safari

Safari (web browser) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For me however, FF, Mozilla and Konqueror - in that order!!!
