A forum like Team-BHP for BlackBerrys

Last month I was in US and got myself a BlackBerry Pearl. Had some trouble shooting to be done and found myself in BlackBerryForums.com : Your Number One BlackBerry Community. A very good forum for all your BB problems and trouble shooting.

I was more struck by the similiarities between this forum and the BB one. The look and feel were nearly the same and you have similiar levels of member classification. Not to mention, rights as a newbie, moderators, Distinguished members, search capabilities etc etc. THe key difference being, BB forum is sponsored by some retailers and carry online advertisements.

For all BB owners, check it out if not already done.

Forum software is created, sold and licensed. Thousands of forums have a similar look and feel.
It's a forum software. You can see the name of the software and it's version on all welcome pages. We at TBHP use most popular and successful forum platform there is. Other forums do too.

No big deal Subbu.

Pardon me, but I thought that phpBB was the most popular forum software - being free. Don't know about the most successful bit.

Depends how what defines popular.

1. By number of installations, it would be a close call between phpBB and invision. Too many early boards used invision. I do remember reading somewhere that vbulletin still had the max number of installs but it wasnt indicated whether the figure was only for paid softwares.

2. By number of users, threads and posts (cumulative), its undoubtedly vbulletin. Most of the biggest boards around the world stick by it.

Hmmmmm, not too sure about the validity point #2.

But as I hinted, 'most successful' is a different thing altogether. I guess that is where vBulletin scores as most of the 'serious' forums would be running it.

I guess, there is a price to be paid for good stuff - and that is the call the vBulletin team has taken. I have developed stuff primarily on phpBB as it was free - so I guess a lot of amateurs would have done the same - it certainly had more to offer amongst the freebies. Thus, making it the most popular.
